What's Your Dream Project?

First off: A complete on-line manual of the entire rules that I use in my game.

This manual would be setting independant; that is you steer what rules are valid for the campaign in question through a few simple parameters at startup.

It would contain all the rules as I use them from the three core books, all the splat books and the other resources in my possession, including the PrC, Feats, Equipment, Spells, Psionics. It would also be steered so that players only have access to information that is pertinent to them.

It would contain maps, NPCs, notes, Monsters and Calendar for my campaign.

This would prevent me from getting a hernia everytime we play at my friend's homes...

Because I would bring the entire game on one laptop.

I'd love to see Dragonfist d20, planescape d20, and Dark Sun d20. I really like Katereks idea, even if it was just redone with all the errata it would be worth it.

I never get far enough to finish any of my campaign world ideas, but the jump start campaign idea Chain Mail Bikini is working on is brilliant.

So far i'd say those are all happening eventually or possible.

The real dream projects, an offical G vs E d20 modern setting, and an offical Final Fantasy d20 game. Maybe Dragonball z d20 too.

A while ago I started basing adventures on various fairy tales, which turns out to be a hell of a lot of fun, and my initial campaign seed for the past five or six years has always been to create a dark and gritty fantasy world on par with the neverendingstory and its ilk.

Never quite get that to succeed, but I still think it'd be cool.

Honestly, my dream project is rather esoteric and unlikely to get anyone here excited - I'm very interested in roleplaying as a modern oral tradition, and I'd love to fund a sizable research group to start putting together a model for how oral traditions (from a variety of times and cultures) work, and then start working on ways to incorporate the better aspects of those into roleplaying.

For example, some storytellers (such as the central-african griot) had formal (but unwritten) methods for tailoring their story to their audience. I'd love to get my hands on the (hypothetical) guide book for that, even if there were only one or two things I don't already know how to do.

There's plenty of other stuff I'd want to do, but most of it is in a similar vein - specific, GM-skill oriented studies to allow me to continue to perfect my craft.

While I'd be tempted to vanity publish my settings, I already do that somewhat (albeit poorly, on my web page), and there'd be no reason to make a living at it anymore. And I'm not convinced that publishing one of my settings would provide as much to the roleplaying community as the more boring projects I'd aim for.

1. Warhammer 40k conversion fully decked out with monsters, eldar, chaos, etc. The world would be unbelievable....

2. An uber-module that would span the PC's lives from 1-20 taking them from low levels all the way through to epic proportions involving the Ivrelum from the Daemonforge setting.

3. Daemonforge: The setting completely done with all the people in the group working on it and get it pushed out to the masses for people to use and grow with.

4. Mechwarrior D20: Mechs+D20=winnah!

A set of Historical Fantasy suppliments. Take all the majot time periods and ciovilizations and add in magic and explains what happens and how everything changes. Each book would cover if magic had been already for a while, and if magic had just been discovered.

I did something sort of like the first part, once. It was a rewrite of earth's history based on magic having been discovered in the stone age, and slowly developed over time. However, I did it using the GURPS magic system. I would like to rewrite that at some point using D&D 3E magic.

My other project would basically be to flesh out my current campaign, Dome of Heaven. It's one I've wanted to run for over a decade. It wasn't until about two years ago that all the ideas came together into a coherent whole. The thing is, it's HUGE. There are so many pieces and ideas here and there that I would love to flesh out, but just don't have the time for.

I REALLY like this idea and I thought I had heard some rumblings of few months back about a project similar to this??? Anyone else remember hearing this?

MY dream project would be a combination of the ORIGINAL intent for Master Tools complete with an intuitive graphics interface that allowed a DM to create a world map and drill down from "moon view" to "street view".

The DM could zoom in on a region or even actual villages and a simple interfac would allow the DM to create and track NPCs.

Nothing animated like NWN or anything. Static would be fine for me.

Then DMs could just buy this $50 package of software and use it at the table. Drop in the LCD table that has been mentioned and you have a very nice tool.

Drool Drool Drool...

I am glad a few of you liked my mega book idea, that is cool, this is something I have dreamed of for years. I wish that this could ultimately happen, though if were to happen they could only do a limited run, I don't suppose they would sell too well based on the price tag alone.

Another Idea I had, and this is to add validity to the 'children's books' approach, was taken from Kingdom Hearts.

In my campaign setting there are several dominions, each is like its own prime. The eight dominions that are different from the first (ie the PC dominion) I am going to loosely base off of various Disney movies. Just the setting and theme, and of course the big bad guy. In other words there will be a world where Jafar from Alladin is the big baddie and another where Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty is the big bad guy. etc etc. I am going to corrupt them where they are bit darker in approach though.

Heck, a lot of that work has been done for you. Just find the original source stories (before Andersen & the Grimm Brothers if you can). Before the Victorians decided to clean them up, "fairy tales" were dark and even corrupt.

Hmmm. The idea seems more popular than I thought, based on a small and statistically insignificant message board sampling. Now if a publisher would just pop in here and say "Hey, great idea . . ." ;)

I actually have a stack of Wonderland notes. Maybe I'll polish them up and submit a proposal somewhere.
