Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Laugh if you will but no other movie has gotten Batman so right! Of course I'm a shameful fan who hasn't seen the new movie yet but this movie is really top notch.

Spider-Man 2, but man is that a hard choice with some of the others in there. X2 and Hellboy are right up there with it. Batman: TAS: Sub-Zero deserves a special mention; the second of the Batman TAS movies, Sub-Zero came out around the time of B&R and was everything B&R should have been. Take Sub-Zero, film it exactly as live action, and you'd have had a smash hit.

Mystery Men certainly deserves a mention. The Specials was a funny, funny film in roughly that same vein. I hope Sky High does well - it certainly looks like a lot of fun.

I think he's getting at the fact that Batman doesn't have any super powers. Therefore he's not really a "super" hero.

"Equipment" as a "super power" has a long distinguished history. Bats isn't the only one who depends on his gadgets.

And you missed the "Other" category. The only one I meant to include but forgot was Batman: Mask of the Phantasm which I haven't seen but have heard enough people rave about that I wanted to include it. Unbreakable was interesting as a novelty because it was done so "realistically" not because it was one of the greatest superhero films. But it also lost a lot of the appeal of superhero stories by being so mundane and its horribly weak anticlimax disqualified it even further as far as I'm concerned. In any discussion I ever have about all the great superhero films its so rare that Unbreakable even gets a mention it simply didn't enter my mind when creating the poll. But its a fine novelty with some nice acting performances and anyone who thinks its really better than Spidey 2 or The Incredibles can just choose the "Other" category and be happy.
