What's your favorite video game?

I'm a bit of an old school Japanese 2-D fighting game fan. Well, "a bit of one" is not accurate at all; I'm a junkie for them. My favorite games are Street Fighter Alpha 3, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves and King of Fighters 1999: The Dream Match (which for real fans of the genre, is really King of Fighters '98).

When I pick up my xbox, hopefully in the very near term, I want more of the same; Capcom vs. SNK 2, SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos and the imminent release of King of Fighters 02/03 this summer. I'll also either pick up or borrow Halo and Halo 2 (to hone my skills for our infrequent multiplayer parties) and the two Knights of the Old Republic, and Doom 3. I'm also really looking forward to the Cthulhu FPS coming out later this year.

But I guess I can't say that it's a favorite of mine since it's not even released yet...

Civ II is the best Civilization games. Not that I'm biased or anything.

Also huge fan of FF 1-3 (American numbering), Chrono Trigger, and Super Smash Brothers Melee. I used to be big into Counter Strike, but no time recently.

Edit: Oh yeah! No one to play Street Fighter 2 Turbo against anymore.

I would be remiss if I didn't add Everquest.

I can't think of many other games that I played for more than a year solid.

I think the Rachet and Clank series on the PS2 is great. A platformer with more of an emaphsis on shooting. And its got a nice sense of humor. Dont let the mascot cuteness fool you.

Doh forgot all about that! FFIV is no slouch either. Great collection there.

CounterStrike. Had a great group that I played online with near nightly and went on to play in a few competition ladders. It was a great time!

Based on how much time I've spent playing the game, I'd say it's pretty clearly the first Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (on Xbox; my PC at the time would have laughted at me if I tried to play KotOR on it); there's certainly no other modern RPG I've played through twice, let alone three times.

Other honorable mentions: Xenogears (PS1). Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy IV and VI (though I played them obsessively in their SNES guises of FFII and FFIII). Tetris. Tecmo Bowl (because no matter how slick Madden 2005 on Xbox 2 looks, it still won't be as much fun as Tecmo Bowl on the NES). Street Fighter II (the only fighting game I ever learned how to play reasonably well).
