Whedon sounds death knell for Firefly/Serenity

Hmmm... regardless of what'll happen (first post + Truth Seeker's addition), I couldn't care less if there is no more Firefly. The series was fantastic, and the movie provided a fitting ending for this series. I'm not interested in seeing any more.

Aside:
"Best marketing efforts" indeed... based on all the marketing I saw, Universal made Serenity look like 'yet another' boring ol' cookie-cutter sci-fi movie. Even the DVD taglines splashed all over the case are lame.

With that marketing, Serenity deserves it's quiet death.

Yes, best marketing efforts. There was a lot of marketing for Serenity that I saw, and I hardly watch TV.

I thought the trailers were reasonably good. I was actually tempted to go see the movie even though I was only able to get through the first DVD of the TV show. If you think emphasizing the unique aspects of the Firefly setting would have resulted in better ticket sales then I disagree with that.

I don;t think the marketing was terrible, but I also think it might have been better.

That said, I would love to see more from this 'verse, although I would prefer a return to television where a more in depth story can be told at a slightly less frenetic pace.

And what unique aspects of the show could you even have highlighted in a short trailer? The entire thing would have consisted of horses running and spaceships flying around in space silently.

It didn't seem to have the best release date. I think it would have done much better as an early summer/spring box office movie as far as a fall when everyone's pretty much sci fied out by then and don't want to take the risk.

Okay, everyone hold thy horses!!!

Read this and see what actually happened.
I dont want to sound like a nag, but...
The first article says Firefly is dead because it didn't make enough money.

Whedon then says the article was too negative and taken out of context...

I don't see where that changes anything though. Whedon wants to pursue more, but it's still unlikely given the failure of the movie. (Pending future sales of course.)

I mean, I'm not much of a Whedonite (Never liked Firefly, Buffy ran itself into the ground), but does it have to be a binary answer? It's not "Will there be more Firefly?" (Yes/no)

To me the original article doesn't read "no", and Whedon's reply doesn't read "yes".
