Where are the angels?

Oh, hell yeah. The older conceptions of what angels looked like are a whole lot more interesting than the fluffy-winged pretty people that the D&D angels are based on.

That's the sort of angel you'll find in the Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary I mentioned before. :)
 

IIRC, when gygax was asked (on one of his "GG Q&A" threads around here), he said that he specifically wanted to avoid using bible-specific angel and devil references, both to his own beliefs and to avoid insulting the beliefs of others (though, of course, we know by now that second part didn't work). so he used names that were taken from throughout the ancient world, and i think he said the planetars, solars, and devas were from ascetism (sp?)
