Where did these monsters appear?

i'm almost certain the verbeeg was in UK7. which came after MM2 1983 i'm sure. so that doesn't change the fact that it was in the MM2 first.

from the Greyhawk Monsters thread: UK7 Dark Clouds Gather: Ba'atun, Soul Beckoner, Spriggans, Ildriss, Flying Owlbears, Ice Para-Elemental, Verbeeg
verbeegs are indeed in UK7. In the great hall of the cloud castle, a pair of them. The listing is a planned encounter, with a stat block.

I've often thought that you could build a heck of a campaign world with just the monster booklet from that module. Or imagine using only the original Fiend Folio or MMII for your campaign. There are so many monsters available to be used that campaign worlds are shaped as much by omission as by inclusion.

My 1e/2e gameworld had "just" the 1e MM & MM2 monsters and seemed to work pretty good, yup. :)

they are the blue-winged kobolds, but oddly enough they did not appear in either of those books (as far as I can tell).

Now you've inspired me to pull out my 1e books this weekend and look, because I didn't have either of the 2e books you referenced and I remember these guys, there is even a minor greyhawk god who is a patron of them. I'm betting FF with no picture and IIRC they have a d3 hp, less even than the kobolds. We'll see.
