Where do you get your inspiration?

I get it from movies, tv shows, novels, history, mythology, things on the news, other Dms ideas.

For my current campaign I came up with the idea from watching the boxed sets of Hercules and Xena I had just purchased. I then read the D20 book Olympus and my Hellenic campaign was born.

I am now reading mythology books on Ancient Greece for ideas for adventures.

Books. I have a gift for reading fast. 300 pages in 2 days fast. As well as a lame job that fortunately lets me read at work. If the author writes an interesting or clever situation, it could become part of a campaign. Some authors (Sherri Tepper comes to mind) also write really great clue chains.

Movies, TV shows, books, comics, videogames, random Wikipedia entries, news stories, and music.

I frequently get inspired by a song lyric and run with it.

So, what inspires you?

Aside from reading books and watching TV from time to time....

Reading ENWorld boards :D The forums here are an endless supply of inspiration. And you get that inspiration from the off topic forum through General forum down to Meta. Sometimes even a post that was not meant to be an idea for an adventure could sparkle a new idea for the next campaign.

For those of you who do their own world-building: Where do you get your inspiration?

Personally, I get my inspiration primarily by reading books. What books?

Any books. Books on history, other cultures, guide books, RPG setting books and many more.
That about covers me.

Right now, I'm drawing up plans for a new homebrew, where much of the action takes place on the high seas. So books covering the age of sail and bronze age mediterranean are of interest right now.

As far as tone, Leiber's Fafhrd and Mouser stories along w/ REH is the general vibe I'm going for.

The 1e DMg has always been a great source of inspiration as well.
