Where do you play?

Hey all I'm in the process of forming a new group, and I'm a bit wary of inviting strangers to my home, and I don't really live in a gaming friendly neighborhood. My senior citizen neighbors have called the cops about unfamiliar vehicles on the block, and pesky neighborhood kids have been known to peek into the windows to get a look at the strange going-ons.

I understand most people play in a home, apartment, or gaming store; I need advice on alternative gaming spaces. If you're one of the ones that doesn't play in the typical aforementioned places, where do you game? I've heard of restaurants and bars that have backrooms and are gaming friendly? Anyone know of any chains that do this? Some people use City facilities, but how do you go about getting to use these for free or very cheap. Someone told me they used a hospital waiting room, and nobody bothered them, plus they were open all night.

I'm thinking of trying to find a gamer that goes to a nearby College or University just so they can reserve facilities. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

At my alma mater we played (and sometimes still do when I make it up on a saturday) in one of the buildings that is always left unlocked.

Check with your group, Somebody just might close at a coffee shop or bookstore, which would make a great place for a game! Otherwise, check with a community center or university clubs office. I was able to score a room with a slide projector and white board for a couple games. Good luck! :D

If someone in the group lives at an apartment complex, check to see if they have a clubhouse that can be reserved or used. Although some apartments require a substantial deposit for using their clubhouses.

Also try your public or college library. Many libraries have private meeting rooms, and often you can use them free of charge.

Games-Plus Games Store. Great place, it's neutral ground so folks feel comfortable, and there's always a ready supply of new material available.

You may want to try your local libary if it has a conferance room that is away from the main area like our local one and no one uses it on Saturdays.

Set up you meeting has a public session to teach people to game and you could be the hero of the libary guild gettin all these poeple into the conferance rooms on a Saturday.

Moving is the first thing that comes to mind, actually. As for the pesky neighborhood kids peeking in your windows, try leaving the occassional rake outside after dark. Or just draw the drapes.

i heard the steam tunnels under MSU are pretty good this time of year. :D

every time i read one of these threads.... Dr Seuss always comes to mind. a variation of Green Eggs & Ham.
