where to from here? planning thread

Since the other sloths are under "mylodon," I don't think it matters much which name order we use for the Tree Sloth or Sloth, Tree. ;) I'm not sure I'd put "Snake" in front of the three snakes you have there. It's not like the MM has Bird, Roc and Bird, Giant Eagle, etc.

I think the bigger issue is the groupings we should post. I really strongly think we should be posting finished monsters (and not rushing to finish any to be posted in a particular week --- we have a lot of critters backed up). So I don't want to post the weresloths and then wait to post the tree sloth. Let me propose the next two groups to be

Jaguar, Spotted Lion, Dire Lycanthrope, Leopardwere, Wereleopard, Werelion, Weresmilodon, Dire Otter, Potamotherium, Leomarh [Felines and otters]

Tree Sloth, Giant Weresloth, Ground Weresloth, Tree Weresloth, Wereweasel, Werebison, Werecamel, Weresheep, Werebadger, Silkie [Shapechangers and associated]

Save the snakes for when they're all finished.

Come to think of it, that means I should group the Ground and Giant Weresloths together in one "Weremylodon" entry. The SRD has a basic Wereboar and a Hill Giant Wereboar as one creature, doesn't it?

The Weresloth can then just be a "Tree Sloth" Weresloth, since it's our interpretation of the original Dragon 40 Weresloth.

So my next posting would be:

Lycanthrope, Dire (includes Dire Werewolf)
Lycanthrope, Werebadger (Standard & Dire)
Lycanthrope, Werebison
Lycanthrope, Werecamel
Lycanthrope, Weresheep
Lycanthrope, Weresmilodon (includes Sabrelord)
Lycanthrope, Weresloth, Ground (Weremylodon)
Lycanthrope, Weresloth, Tree
Lycanthrope, Wereweasel (Standard & Dire)
Lycanthrope, Werelion (Standard & Dire)

Hold on a minute.

Just to be clear, in my earlier post I was joust outlining my plans for releasing the Lycanthropes I've posted. I'm expecting to post some other batches inbetween the two "Shapeshifter batches". I wasn't planning on waiting or rushing to finish a few creatures for a batch, but post a batch of, say, Planar Animals or Elemental Creatures while the second Shapeshifter batch is being completed.

I don't want to mix the shapechangers with non-shapechangers, but have no objection to you posting the Jaguar and Tree Sloth with some different creatures than the Snakes and Giant Lynx if you want to - I suggest some of the "Prime Material" Magical Beasts like the Scythetail, Spectramouse or Zygraat rather than the Leomarh, though.

e.g.: Jaguar, Lion, Spotted, Jarbo, Otter, Dire, Sloth [Tree Sloth or Sloth, Tree? How can I decide!], Onco, Scythetail, Spectramouse, Zygraat makes nine Beasts of the Prime Material, so you'd just need one more - the Potamotherium perhaps?

Also, I understood we're each doing a batch of 10 per week. Maybe on different days, maybe on the same day. If my "revised Lycanthrope" batch above is agreeable, I was planning on uploading them on Sunday night and/or Monday morning.

Oh, and I'm planning to include links to the creatures I post in the CC News announcement for said creatures, assuming the News Posts allow link tags, which I think likely.

From here and here, I was pretty sure that the plan was to do a single batch of 10 creatures per week. Otherwise, all the critters won't get their week of sunshine on the "Last 10 Conversions" list, which is visible from all the CC pages (except for the actual monster pages themselves).

So the long and short of it is that I think we should stick to 10 total per week following Shade's old logic of giving each monster "time to shine." At the moment, I don't mind much which 10 we post this week as long as we get the jaguar up (to go with the werejaguar and jagwere) and we don't post the tree weresloth without the tree sloth going up. Do you have a batch of 10 that satisfies that? I don't mind which of us posts which critters, either.

I do think it's a good idea to link to the critters in the news post; I was just in a bit of a rush Monday morning when I did the last one. Also, I definitely like putting the ground and giant weresloths into a single weremylodon entry.

So what, you want to alternate batches week by week?

Incidentally, the "Last 10 Conversions" list may be visible from all the CC root pages, but the links don't work. If you go to the "Converted Monsters" and click on Snapper it'll go "404 Not Found", because the URL has a surplus "/converted" in the address.

It's yet another thing Darjr is looking into.

Still, it means the viewer can only use the Last 10 Conversions links from the Home page (and Search, for some reason), with the result that if we do link to the uploaded monsters in the News posts they'll get almost as much "sunshine" as the others.

Incidentally, while us Admins can look at news posts too old to appear on the "Home page", there doesn't seem to be a way for regular viewers to see old news.

What's up with that?

If it makes such a great difference to you, we could just just post a batch of animals & beasts with the Jaguar and Tree Sloth in it next, and I'll do the Lycanthropes batch after that.

Shall I try editing the "In Memorium" post so the monster names link to their entries?

I'm also thinking calling it a "Weresloth, Ground (Weremylodon)" would be even better, since (a) the CC will alphabeticize it next to the "Weresloth, Tree" and (b) "Weremylodon" is awfully close to "Weresmilodon", and it'll cut down on confusion.

I'll modify my Creatures Awaiting Upload & Current Conversions list with those names, and alter the names in my previous post on this thread.

Yeah, I remember that.

Almost, but not quite. It's not just the linking but the visibility, as well as the extra visibility by being in the top news item.

Yet another low-priority thing to ask darjr about, I guess.

That would be good. How about your suggested
Jaguar; Lion, Spotted; Jarbo; Otter, Dire; Sloth, Tree (?); Onco; Scythetail; Spectramouse; Zygraat; Potamotherium ?
I'll take the first 5, you can take the last 5 (or some other grouping if you prefer). You want to do the news item, or should I?

As you like!

The weresloth name works for me.

Sure, you do the first five.

Jaguar
Lion, Spotted
Jarbo
Otter, Dire
Sloth

I'll leave it to you as to whether to use "Tree Sloth" or "Sloth, Tree". I just can't decide. Or we could just call it a "Sloth" and dodge the quandary!

I've pretty much finished the Giant Lynx and have also posted a Wild Cat. Unless you strongly object I'd like to include those in the upload. (I've also done a my own version of a normal Lynx but won't be posting that, since it has 3E stats in Races of Faerûn.

So I am going to have these 5 for my half or the batch:

Cat, Wild
Lynx, Giant
Onco
Potamotherium
Spectramouse

Poor 'lil Spectramouse, stuck in a batch with four kittycats. :p

EDIT: The Wild Cat is pretty similar to the Races of Faerûn Lynx, but a little bit nastier. If you don't like it I could substitute the Scythetail for it. :ENDEDIT

Next week I'm going to do Lycanthrope batch I set out before.

Thos're my babies! Mine! You Can't Have Them!

You want to do the news item, or should I?

You did the last news item, I might as well do this one.

As you like!

I'll edit that before I do our next "Furry" News then.

The weresloth name works for me.

Good!

That's a good division. I have some questions/concerns about the wild cat (see that thread), so I think it would be better to save that one and do the Scythetail this week. I'll post my 5 between tonight and tomorrow, I hope, and let you know by email.

Yeah, we'll do the lycanthropes next week. Or you can do them all if you really want. ;)

I'd rather include the Wild Cat than leave it for later batch.

You wouldn't want to leave a kitty all by itself in the cold would you? Besides, it'll get lonely without the Spectramouse to play with. :o

Anyhow, I have (hopefully) answered your points in that thread. I'll not be posting mine until Sunday night or Monday, and I can leave the Wild Cat to last to give you time to respond.

I'll do them.

You know I'd just change them to the way I prefer if you posted half of them, so I might as well save you the bother and do them in the first place. :p
