Err, Mike Mearls had nothing to do with M&M. Steve Kenson is the mastermind of M&M.
(Well, Mearls wrote Gimmick's Guide to Gadgets, but I thought the book was quite flawed).
Also, they've already said there isn't much chance of D&D 4e having an impact on M&M. I'm sure if there's stealable stuff (e.g., skills, grapple, trip, sizes), it might get somehow get incorporated eventually -- but M&M is different enough from D&D that many of the changes in 4e aren't going to mean much in M&M (M&M has no classes; "Power Level" isn't really a lot like the character level of a PC, so anything that depends on character level [a Saga-like skill system, for ex] won't be [immediately] useful or applicable to M&M; etc.).
That said, if 4e has a better grapple system, I will at least think about stealing it for my games.
