NE is cake...all for one and more fo rme..purely greedily simple...how can you go wrong? You are out for number one and he is you, bottom line. ..but NE is self serving..
Leopold, for a looooong and heated discussion of how evil is not selfishness and selfishness is not evil, and JLXC arguing the converse (well, actually that selfishness is the essence of all evil, which is what I'm objecting to), see this thread (Warning: Features swearing and no small amount of aggro):

In short, I'm with Celebrim on this. Yes, much evil is done due to selfishness, but they are not the same thing, and one doesn't always imply - nor lead to - the other. It probably requires delusion, insanity or an alien psychology to do so, but it's possible without self-interest.

I don't really think I've confused CE with NE.

CE is a passionate sort of evil, leaping into battle to bathe in the blood of those weaker than you. various humanoid types obviously spring to mind.

NE is a dispassionate sort of evil. bathing in blood is ok if the bath house has it as an option. hmmm, I'll have to keep that one in mind. remember, I mentioned amoral. Jason or any of the other psycho's in the slasher flicks usually fall into a NE mold. they don't cackle madly as they kill (usually they just stare blankly into space). they just do it to instill terror in others.

NE needs neither Law or Chaos to do the most evil. playing a NE (as an NPC) is entertaining because they are capable of ANYTHING - remember the guy in Con Air singing "he's got the whole world"?
NE's don't have to be involved in epic plots of evil, but they might be. you just never know.

actually, if I'm going to play an evil PC, I'll play LE everytime (Machiavelli rocks!). so much more fun to be evil without being obvious about it.

Why assume CE and NE must be obvious about it?

Why can't the CE Vampire be subtle damn it! It could mastermind entire schemes, have globe spanning plots, and when the feces hits the fan, drop all his loyal minions and allies and escape ignoring cries of 'loyalty' and 'duty.

Nothing says Chaotics can't follow the laws-so long as it is to their general benefit. However when the chips are down is when the alignments come out to play...

I ran CG Elf once who ended up as a Duke (titular) in human lands. I had strict laws, expected people to be good. But I didn't force people to live there. If they felt like leaving, all cool. If they didn't want to work and pay taxes they didn't have to. Actually I left running the Duchy up to a couple of Stewards that I chose because they were good at it, and continued to go off and adventure...

I think it's because you have to be Evil all the time. You know, something happens, like meeting an NPC that you like; but you realize your character would probably flip out and kill 'em dead just for the evilness of it all. Or killing and torturing those who you know are going to help you out later. None of these things are going to help you in the long run.

I guess Evil is self-destructive.

no see that is Evil Stupid. Why would you do that? What purpose does it serve killing him? Why would you EVEN waste your tim on him? Remeber, evil is not all about killing and destruction. It's about goals, and plans, and plots. Backstabbing can be done in more than one way: In the boardroom, courtroom, or out in the alley. I fail to see why evil always has to destroy everyone in the way, remember evil is not stupid, and people can be manipulated and pulled in what ever direction you want. Evil is far from being simple "chop, kill, dice, repeat" everythign they meet.

for example: Lex Luther would be NE or LE. did he kill everyone in his path? No he didn't. He bought them out, put them in a lower position, trounced on the little guy, and moved and manipulated people like pawns on a chess board. His goal was not the depravity of simple murder but the thrill of ruling the world.

NE is about self serving and lofty goals and not just mindless depravity and killing just to kill.

Ah, a good friend once told me playing Chaotic evil is "Never having to say your sorry." And pretty much that is the way I have played it ever since. It seems to work perfectly fine. If I want to travel with the party I do. If I want something but will result in me having to kill the previous owner for it, I do. Why, because. The problem I have seen with Chaotic evil and Chaotic neutral is people play them as Chaotic stupid. You need to travel with a party because no gamemaster is going to run a game for you and a game for the party. So, you need alittle party cohesion, but you don't have to help the party if you feel they wouldn't have helped you in a situation. Personally, I find the hardest alignment to play as Lawful good.

Lawful good means I always have to say I am sorry, and I must never break the rules. Heck, if my enemy surrenders it becomes my responsibility to care for him and his children. What, he is an orc and his tribe has surrendered to me! Bah, set up a reservation and make them live on it. That way they may become reformed and help society. Bah, wipe them out so they don't breed and come back to kill more fine citzens of the lands.

Yeah I have to agree with Macbrea on that one. LG would be pretty rough. I don't think I've ever played LG... atleast not for to long...

In fact the more I play my charcters the more they slip towards evil. It is just so much easier to be expidicous and kill your enemies than to try to work things out. Really takes more work to be GOOD.

Easeist to play: Any Neutral. NE, LN, CN, NG in that order...

Currently playing a LN Sorceror that worships a Lawgiver God... constantly find myself having to restrain the knee-jerk reaction of 'guilty, and your sentence is *ZOOT* Lightening Bolted until dead'...

Try to get through life acting this way, and tell me it's an easy life.
