Which core class you never play?

Which core class you never play?

Up until two weeks ago, I could have answered 'No' to two. Monk and fighter. Never played a straight up fighter and never had any interest in monks. My specialties were paladin, cleric and ranger. My curious deviance was the occasional Rogue. The sorceror (or mage) was my secret indulgence. But never a fighter, almost always a Ranger.

The current game changed that.

I'll be an old, old man before I play a Monk though. I get enough fisticuffs in a days work. Give me a char with a sword or bow and I'm much, much more happy.

Hmmm... seems to me that there is a whole lot of baggage and pre-conceptions arising from the names given to some classes, namely: the Barbarian, the Bard and the Druid.

Perhaps we can kill these stereotypes if we rename them the Berserker, the Emoter and the Ecomancer.

I would have said "Bard" if I had never played Temple to Elemental Evil for PC. Then I played it... and now I like Bards. Now I also don't like sorcerers because I've learned to like Wizards a whole lot more.

That's because monk is one of those concepts you can either love or hate (exaggerated, of course). :)

Many people hate it for various reasons, like it doesn't fit their image of high fantasy, or because it's a class that doesn't fill a niche. It's all about opinions.

In my opinion the monk is also the least favorable class and so I happily marked it off.

I pretty much like them all... Lined up for the future, I'd really like to play a sorceror, a druid or a ranger - none of which I've played before... I'm stuck for a good character concept for a druid PC.

I think bard and sorceror are funny ones. IMO, they both look a little weak on paper, but are versatile and lots of fun in a game. However, I think a sorceror really needs a decent theme - even more so than other classes... To me, they seem flat if they don't have one.

I've played a lot of wizards and clerics in the past. No more of them for a while I think. Started to OD a little.

I can. Monk is one of those classes that people love to rag on.

Now what surprises me is how high sorcerer is. Sorcerer is probably the most played spellcasting class in my game.

But the 4 iconic core classes are the ones leading the positive side, which is quite a compliment for them (and the designers). :)
