Which core class you never play?

Which core class you never play?

Sorcerer - If I'm going to play a spellcaster, the Wizard wins over this. So does the Bard, Druid or Cleric. Sorc's are just too limited in their spell choices for me and the pathetic BAB and hit points reduces them to no other real options. I also dislike the fact they get their spells a whole level behind wizards. Wizards are much more versatile and those other classes have better attack rates or other cool abilities to make them far more interesting to play.

HERE's a house rule version of the sorcerer, which makes him more equal to the wizard (or even slightly more powerful, depending on how much benefit spontaneous casting is in your campaigns over the preparation of the wizard). Maybe that would work for you. :)

That's a great variant. Thanks.

You know, I didn't think I'd enjoy playing a fighter until I tried it. Man, fighters are fun. Dishing out massive amounts of damage is fun. I love rolling a "2" on the die and asking my DM "Does a 23 hit?" I love threatening a critical on a natural 15. I love Power Attack with a 2-handed weapon. I love Great Cleave. I love how spellcasters buff the fighter first. Sure, fighters have their downsides, but that's how it goes. Being Captain Kickass has its perks too. :D

I can't believe more people play sorcerers than bards, barbarians, and monks. Sorcerers are the lamest class in existence. :) Not even on a power scale, although they are weaker by far than wizards, but on a game scale. You have extremely limited choices of skills, spells, weapons...basically every option in the game is taken away from you. How can they be fun?

Fireball. Fireball. Fireball. Fireball. Fireball. Fireball. Fireball. Magic Missile. Magic Missile. Magic Missile. Magic Missile. Magic Missile.

Etc. Etc.

Seriously, wizards are great, but if you want to be the guy bringing the thunder all day long, sorcerer is your gig. I've seen a few sorcerers in play, at high levels, alongside wizards. I've observed that the wizard is the guy who's always got the right spell for the right situation - and that's a cool gig. But the sorcerer, otherwise known among my friends as the Mobile Artillery Platform, is the guy that always seems to have one more nuke, one more wall of force, one more d-door up his sleeve. There are a lot of reasons to prefer a wizard over a sorcerer. I don't deny that. But when it comes time to bring the damage, the sorcerer is bar none among spellcasters.

You just need a cool character, the class only adds the mechanics.

I have a lot of fun with my sunite enchantress. :)

I like wizards, too, but all that freedom in applying your spells is really cool.
I'm pretty sure, that you need a very well thought-out spell selection, tho. ;)

Speaking as a player here, I dislike playing the primary spellcasting classes (mainly because of the spellcasting game mechanics) and the fighter class (bland and boring). Based purely on my playing preferences, nothing more.

After playing for so many years, I am more interested in difference and variance than I used to be. If I am going to play something, I want to do so while enjoying it.

Of course, my preferences usually fall by the wayside because I want to play in a rpg than not do so. :)

bard, other players try to kill me when i sing IRL and they would not humor my idea to play an alienist bard who inspires madness and despair.

Hear me children and scream through the night,
know that soon the stars will be right.
They here ruled once, they will rule again.
And soon dear children thier rule will begin.
They come from between space and time
writhing forms covered in sli..'huuurk'

At bout that time the party paladin would have put me to the sword. :(
