I have never seen a d16 like some people apparently have, but I would buy one...

It could be printed with #'s starting at 3 ( 3-18 ) , and you could give it to your players who complain about your preffered ability score generation system to get them to shut up.

" Don't like the 4d6 drop the lowest result? You can always use the the d16! - No? 4d6 will be fine you say? "

Or for NPC's!

Hmmm - gotta find one!

d16 is very easy to simulate. Just roll a d20, and reroll if you get a 17 or higher. You'll rarely need to reroll more than once.

For that matter, any die is easy to simulate. Just take your next-highest die and roll it, rerolling if you need to.

d2603? No problem! Just roll d3000, and reroll if you roll too high. (Just roll a d4-1 for the thousands place . . . the rest should be obvious.)

This is as good a place as any to say:

1) I have a d4 that is actually a d6 with a 1, 2, 3, 4, and two rounded ends. It's very cool, and you don't have one, for which I mock you heavily.

If you want to get one, one way is to get a copy of the game Uri Geller's First Strike. Lord, it sucks! But it's got the die!

2) I would LOVE to buy an uber-d20 from somewhere. I have difficulty finding those d20s that are 1.25 (or so) inches wide, but something even bigger would be cool. I'm talking about an Epic Level die -- something that you save for the Great Red Worms, the Balors, maybe even the blind kobolds.

Anyone know where I can find one? I don't think anyone makes them, which is a shame. Someone could make a lot of money off of me :).

The proper method of rolling a d16 was given in 1st Edition AD&D. Roll a d8 and a d6, if you roll 4-6 on the d6 add 8 to the d8 roll, otherwise add zero.

And a fair method of rolling large obscure numbers... d2603? Roll d10000/10000*2603 and round up. No rerolling necesary.

No you just tell your dN to roll a d2603. Much easier that way.

If you are looking for a use for a D30... we use it in our Shadowrun campaign to judge the outcome of a roulette bet. (Not exactly the same, but nearly the same odds, and fastest to solve, with the payoffs adjusted for probabilities.)
So far one PC got lucky twice, earing 30K and then 60K in about 10 games (He also spent the 30K in one night, and may lose the 60K in the next big poker challenge).

First of all, I must point out that your name sucks ass. Looks like it's tyme to repoaest that lectyre of myne about Nyming ur Chaeraectyr. Between your posts and Nvvyn's posts I'm in a state of perpetual vymiting.

Second of all, and more importantly, I must point out that the expected value of d10000/d10000*2603 is not 1302.

As a rule, E(dX/dX*Y) > E(dY), where "dZ" refers to the act of rolling a die with "Z" sizes.

I know that only certain polygons are possible. Any fellow math geeks who know what regular polygons (with equal areas on sides) may be made?

Ugh. d100's suck. Worst. Die. Ever.

For DM's, d30's are great if only for their sheer pelting power. Bullseye a player with a d30 in the temple sometime when he gets uppity, and see how quickly his dissension disappates. ;)
