Which do you prefer out of a Level 1000 characther?

ick

I feel dumber for having read this thread....

Just after the ELH came out, one of my friends took it upon himself to *try* to run a short lvl 60 game. I dunno wtf he was thinking. I had a Paragon Human (estimated at LA +15)Psion 20 / Monk 15 / Ur Priest 10. Basicly I was a cheesy DBZ type character. It was all rather rediculous. Fun, but rediculous. With his psionic/magic items and class abilities and stuff, he was capable of wiping 5 Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragons in 2 or 3 rounds. (Psychofeedback with that psi weapon property that lets you insta-crit 1/day with Manifestor (which allows you to spend like 5psp to use a 1/day property again) with Mindfeeder, which on a crit you gain psp = to dmg dealt... on a Pick... so by like the 4th Attack he was dealing MILLIONS of damage.... naturally he had great cleave and followers he'd kill just to get his dmg up to gank a Dragon in one hit.)

Bleh...

If you prefer "beyond level" characters, why even play with a level-based system like D&D? It seems a point-buy system like GURPS or Champions would suit you better, just set your character point total to something like 1,000,000. At this level, you're outside the bounds of traditional sword and sorcery; you're into superhero range. There are better systems for superhero games than D&D, IMO.

What is it about D&D that appeals to you, that makes you want to use it as a system rather than any other?

And if your intent is to create a Final Fantasy campaign world using D&D, then why not post a message saying "Hey, I want to create a Final Fantasy campaign with the D&D rules. Any suggestions? By the way, my concept requires the use of 1000th level characters." Instead, you just throw up a theoretical 1000th level fighter and say "Look!"

Let me ask you a question: is there anyone else involved in this "Final Fantasy 1000" campaign besides you at this time? You mention that you have other 1000th level characters, but no mention of other players, a DM, etc.

You asked what I would suggest. I would suggest that the d20 system is a poor choice for the type of game you want to play. You should look into either a much more freeform system, or one which can be set to the power levels you are wanting as a base (ie, where the "level one" characters are as powerful as the 1000th level chracter you've posted).

As to whether I think you're unusual... well, kind of. NOt that I haven't seen odd stuff here, but simply because I'm still having trouble seeing what it is you wanted to get out of posting this. Give me an example of the kind of reply you might have hoped to get.

Well to answer your question. There no one else except me. No other player and no DM! I prefer to do this campaign solo. And the example that I'm was hoping to look for is "Oh my god, a 20 year old playing these stupid *blank* game, what are you special ed? Why don't do you play RPG like Pokemon or even Seasame Street!" or something like this. And the reason why D&D core rules are.....well, I was hoping that this defiantely the kind of RPG game! Well that my reason. Or and I'm planning to make a D&D spreadsheet for my Level 1000 fighter I name him Tai! :D

Is this officially a flame war?
If not, why not?
B- man have you posted this to http://forum.rpg.net yet? They are more creative in their advice, although somewhat less polite.

Try looking over the rules, creating a 1st level character, with stats ranging from 3-18 in each ability (Str, Dex, etc....). Run practice fights with monsters found in the Monster manual.
Eventually, when you are older, go to a hobby shop and ask if anyone is running a beginners game of D&D.

No. And thank you! :D

Well, it wasn't my intent...

I was honestly trying to figure out if bartmanhomer had an underlying motivation for posting these stats, like wanting advice, or even to initiate some sort of ridiculously high powered smackdown thread. But based on this...

Unless I'm reading it wrong, it seems that his intent is for us to ridicule him.

P.S. - Bartmanhomer, if what you're trying to do is play an unbeatable Final Fantasy character, all by yourself with no one else around, I think the easier route would be to buy the Final Fantasy video games and use all the cheat codes. It's what you really want.

May I asked all of you a question. Do you think my thread is just a waste of all your time?! If so I'll just read the D&D books and other RPG! So that way when I know all the rules. I won't be having a hard time "losing my head" about the D&D!

I'll be frank with you; whatever your initial intentions, the tone of the thread comes across as, well, masturbatory. Kind of a "Hey look what I did!" sort of deal. This is due in large part to how high leveled the proposed character is. Level 1000 seems so far beyond the pale overpowerful as to make one wonder just what the point is.

Look at it like this - you've made reference to a few items from Final Fantasy XI. Now imagine playing FFXI with a character that never runs out of HP/MP, always has 300% TP, automatically kills anything in one hit, and can create any item just by wanting it. It'd get pretty boring after a while, wouldn't you say? It might be amusing to be all powerful for a while, but with no risk of failure and no having worked hard to earn what you've got, it all just ends up being hollow.

That's the problem some folks are having with the fresh-out-of-the-box level 1000 character. That it's a hollow excercise. The character isn't level 1000 because he's had mighty adventure after mighty adventure, it's level 1000 because you decided you wanted it so.

You said you like powerful characters, BMH, and hey, that's dandy. You also mentioned that you don't have a game you're in right now. As a suggestion, why not just forget about the rules for the time being, and just write a story about your fighter. Who he is, what he's done, and what happens to him now. Try that on for size and see how it fits.

Let's just say that I'm "wild" with high number!

This is the greatest sentence ever written. I'm going to make this my catch phrase.

I'll be going along, living life on the edge, as is my wont, when somebody will ask me, "Man, why are you acting so crazy?"

And I'll turn to them with a big grin and say, "I'm wild with high number!"

And then I'll, I don't know, hold up a tube of Mentos or something. It'll be great.
