Which Games Converted to d20 have the feel of the orginal?

Silver Age Sentinels really kept the feel of the original. In fact, a thread over on the d20 Publishers forum has people argueing if they kept TOO much of the original. Since I prefer Tri-stat to d20, and all the books are going to be dual-statted from now on, I'm glad the 2 games are so close, as it means less wasted space for stats.

Tsyr, I have seen some of your posts in the past, and you usually make more sense. I played the old SW for years, and hated it. It was incomprehensible, even the GM got confused on several occasions. It was horrible.

I haven't seen the new D20, but anything would be better than the old system.

I'm with Tsyr...

Our group decided we wanted to play SW. SO I bought the core book, and we ran a couple of combats..personal, vehicle, and starship...YUK...totally non-cinematic...

None of use were familiar with WEG's version ( Iwas out of RPGS for half of the 1980's and almost all of the 1990's), so I went out and found a copy.

Again we ran a couple of combats, and we all decided it was much more cinematic and "fit" Star Wars much better..easier to run, easier to play..yep it does some have some loopholes, and D20 SW does some things better (I think the Force is handled a bit better in D20), bit overall we like WEG much better...

We wrapped up that campaign, and I was looking forward to seeing the Revised D20 SW book to see if they had improved anything...pretty book, but it has made the combat systems even more complex and cumbersome. The Starship rules are like playing a wargame...Ill play Star Fleet Battles if I want a tactical starship combat minatures game..

differents trokes for different folks...but IMO D20 SW is overall a step-down form the revised 2E WEG rules..

To me the mechanics are very important for the mood. the Cthulhu and Star Wars d20 systems do not work for me. I LOVE the old Cthulhu system, swiftly and deadly, a totally different system. The new Star Wars is just to tied up for my taste. The class system is not the ideal system for the star wars universe, IMHO. Besides, the older one was much easier to play and run. It was fun because the character would all be ready in 20 minutes and the adventure would run swiftly, without much intrusion of the rules, that were a lot simpler. I also loved the crazy dice thing! I missed that.

As for the L5R. I have the books from the old system and i really like them. But I have not played the new Rokugan d20. All i can say is that he odler system was more deadly than the usual d20 system. I on't know i they took that in considertaion in the conversion so I'll just pass on that judgement.

I'm with Tsyr and JeffB, I much prefered WEG Star Wars to d20. I just don't like the class system at all, I find skills to be much more realistic and easy-to-use, especially when you're looking for a character concept that can't be represented by pre-made classes. There are a couple weaknesses to the rules, sensors and explosives being the most noticable to me, but I just followed the 'ol Golden Rule (when in doubt, pick an appropriate skill, pick a difficulty, roll and compare) on a case-by-case basis and it worked out fine.

I think CoC d20 is well-done, having nixed classes, but I can't compare it to the old version because I haven't read or played that one. Perhaps they should have made HP equal Con+level or something like that (a gun doesn't much care what level you are). Still good, though.

It seems to me, from the time I first looked at Rokugan d20, that they managed very well to create a working mood or atmosphere for the world, but not necessarily the same as the original. Every thought I've had since buying it of playing anything involving Rokugan has been d20, but I can understand why you might want to play the original. BTW, don't ask the L5R mailing list this question -- it will spark some of the worst flaming I have ever seen. :-)
