Well I happen to disagree with them; and the over arching theme of my post I was trying to convey was that while it's all D&D people have a right to not like 3rd or 4th edition.
And that is fair enough. I read your post (the one I quoted in my last) as if you were saying that 4e doesn't feel like D&D. While you might not feel that, my point was simply that plenty of other posters have demonstrated that it does to them.
The good thing about all this, is that we have the tools to please ourselves (and no, I ain't talking about silicon dolls).
If you want to play 1e or 2e, you most likely have your old books, and you can just about get anything for a reasonable price online. If that isn't enough, there is a whole bunch of retro-clones to supplement with.
If you want to play 3.x, most books can still be gotten from new, or otherwise from eBay. There is also a whole host of d20 games like Pathfinder, whose material can be used with your game.
And if want to play 4e, well, there is plenty of shiny new stuff to get as well.
There is no need to be bitter (not saying that you are) as a roleplayer. We can play whatever we want (assuming you can find players for it, obviously).
Cheers
