Hi-

I'm think about buying either Eberron or Forgotten Realms but can not decide which to get, so why not ask you guys which setting should get my hard earned $$. I thought about a Non-WoTC setting but I heard most of those other setting are pretty bad.

thanks guys

Well, who ever you heard that no WotC settings are bad lied to you. In fact I would argue that most non WotC settings are actually better then Wizard settings. But a lot of that deals with what people like, its easy to not like the high power of Oathbound, the darkness of Midnight, or the politics of Kalamar. Just like its easy to not like the magic tech of Eberron.

I predict about 60 different answers plus about 200 settings you never asked for. And you, more confused than when you came in. But good luck! :D

I would say respectfully that you heard wrong: Wilderlands of High Fantasy and Midnight are both excellent settings.

Of WotC's settings, the only ones I like are Ghostwalk and Al-Quadim - the latter is 2e, though it may have been updated to 3e by some enterprising fans.

Non-Wizards settings run the gamut from crap to fantastic.

However, out of Eberron and the Forgotten Realms I would pick (and have picked) the former. Eberron takes a modern, Third Edition-centric approach to heroic fantasy, and shies from the "traditional" Tolkienesque take in ways of which I greatly approve. They make a lot of stale elements of D&D fresh again - core races are a big example.

I lean to Eberron. Much depends on your game style. Both are magic heavy but F Realms has a 25 th level mage around every corner where Eberron the magic is everywhere but very low level.

Eberron lends itself best to intrigue and problem solving. F Realms seems more PC races vs humanoids / goblinoids.

For another thing to consider, there are about five books for Eberron vs 20 for F Realms.

*gives a Homer "Doh!"*

You were lied to! There are WAY better settings out there! Scarred Lands man! Scarred Lands!!!!

That is why it is important we give reasons not say say- "I like this one."

'course- so much depends on the DM and his/her style.....

What? You didn't think if I'm around no mention to the Scarred Lands was going unmentioned?!

:p :)

Oh and if you want more info on the Scarred Lands, check my Sig. I'm the pimp daddy of SL stuff much like Shemmy is our PS guru.

So...I guess I should say more eh?
