And why? :)

(For simplicity's sake, this poll only includes the original film and its two remakes, not the various spinoffs such as The Son of Kong, King Kong vs. Godzilla, King Kong Escapes, King Kong Lives, etc. )

I have to wait for the second run theater in town to get it (sometime in Feb. probably).

Without having seen Jackson's remake I will vote for the 1933 version.

Peter Jackson would have picked the 1933 version as well. I would.

Heh, I have heard footage of Mr. Jackson burbling about King Kong... He would indeed pick it himself. :)

That said, the new King Kong is very much a remake, not a reinvisioning of the original, whole stretches of the script are the same.

Either one makes the deLaurentis version look like the steaming pile of monkey poo it was.

Just got back from the movie...going to have to give this one to 2005 King Kong. Which, really, shouldn't be much of a surprise. I still LOVE the '33 one, but this new Kong was just able to do so much MORE and he felt so much more alive and real.

Well, AMG, I'll bounce that one right back.

What I love about the original (which was my pick) is how much it leaves for the audience to interpret/make up/envision.

Jackson made a sophisticated film. Which is a great accomplishment.

Cooper and Schoedsack made a simple film with some of the richest imagery and story elements ever put on celluloid.

I like the simple film. It asks more of my imagination and that's what's fun for me. Jackson's film does all the work, fills in all the gaps (except for how they get him into that theatre), and does so very very well... but I like having to do the work myself, somehow.

I'll be blogging on these films. Watch that space.
