Which is your favorite version of "King Kong"?

I like the simple film. It asks more of my imagination and that's what's fun for me. Jackson's film does all the work, fills in all the gaps (except for how they get him into that theatre), and does so very very well... but I like having to do the work myself, somehow.

Oh, I can agree with that. Its why I still love the classic version. But there's just something about really seeing emotion on Kong's face that seems to change things. Especially those eyes. Those animators did an absolutely amazing job, especially with the emotion on Kong's face during the Empire State Building scene.

Heh, I have heard footage of Mr. Jackson burbling about King Kong... He would indeed pick it himself.

That said, the new King Kong is very much a remake, not a reinvisioning of the original, whole stretches of the script are the same.

True, but he have the option to put the story in a present-day period, like that 1976 version. I'm just glad he didn't.

Well, the finale wouldn't make sense in modern day (ie, using him as a sideshow). Maybe Nintendo would buy him, but most people would rather see the dinosaurs than a big monkey.

The original. The 70's version had Rick Baker in a monkey suit. No real dinosaurs to speak of.

I gave the edge to the new one. It had it's weaknesses, but it did best the part I like best about King Kong; having a big monstrous ape that fights dinosaurs and then runs rampant through New York.

I was 5, it left an impression.

I haven't seen the new one, and I had an irrational dislike for b&w films as a child.

The original is on the way via Netflix and hitting the theater for the new one later tonight.


Odds are my vote will change.

Yeah, but these days, where a movie ticket cost at least $8 or more, audience don't like to do the work themselves. With the advance in special effects -- mainly computer-assisted -- it is expected to be used when necessary.

I saw the latest version of King Kong this last Wednesday. I really enjoyed it.

It's been a while since I've seen the previous two versions, but I'd have to say that the latest version was my favorite. Still, I'll have to rent the other two versions to make sure.
