Which monsters do you think will be in MM1?

I think we will see more mythological monsters (cyclops : check) and less silly things (digesters, delver...)
So... Phoenix, rocs, dragons, unicorns...

I wonder if the Tarrasque will be in. And if she will have a better look than in 3e.

With two Yuan-Ti in Desert of Desolation those are guaranteed to be in MM1.
Not guaranteed. There is one monster in DoD that isn't going to be in the MM I and we don't know what it is (although there has been a lot of speculation).

I'm hoping for lots of heroic level monsters, mainly humanoids, ideally with a rich cultural background and sidebars allowing their use as a player race. I'd also like to see a couple of interesting templates to turn regular monsters into something unexpected. I'd also like to see a space-efficient list of (monstrous) beasts.

I wouldn't like to see more than one or two examples of staple paragon level monsters and I don't want to see any epic level monsters.

I am not sure, but won't the terms "Elite", "Minion" and "Solo" not be attached to the monsters roles instead of their name?

Like: Bullete (Elite Brute, Level 10, 2000 XP) or Beholder (Solo Artillery, Level 10, 4000 XP). (Note: role names, level and xp have been chosen arbitrarily and might not be even close to what the real names are.)
Yea, I am thinking the same thing - that the "encounter difficulty" (or whatever we are calling the tag) will be some category of descriptor.

I wish they'd give us another new years gifty like the elf write-up, but for something iconic but not too common to avoid giving away the farm. Something like a displacer beast.

Actually, I think the Mind Flayer will be in there. Like the beholder, the mind flayer is considered one of the key iconics of D&D--so much so they are not in the SRD. I doubt you'd get a full write-up--they'll just give us the standard "striker" version, with the mind-blast and brain-eating attack (assuming this isn't considered an "instant death" sort of thing), a few powers but not a full psionic class beast, just like various variations of beholder-kin won't be in the first MM.

I'm interested to see what epic level omnsters will make it in. As the book is stated to have over 300 monsters for levels 1-30.

I'd like to see the abominations carried through, in spirit if not creature for creature.

And idd i'd like the Tarrasque in there, but lvl 30'd

Personally, I'd prefer not to see any unique monsters in the MM1, just to make it more user-friendly. With that in mind, I'd rather see the Tarrasque skip MM1. Maybe it could be in the DMG as a plot device... er, uh, I mean, an example of unique monsters, but the MM1 should be about facilitating encounters in the game, and uniques take on the role of plot device and adventure motivation instead of encounter fodder.

However, that's only my opinion, and while I can hope, I can also see a case for the inclusion of certain uniques simply because they are iconic to D&D.

With Regards,
Flynn

One monster won't be in MM 1. There are two yuan-ti in DoD. Therefore, the yuan-ti will be in the MM 1.
