D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

So unless I am intentionally fusing genres, perhaps with a multiverse plot, I would have to pick something that fits fairly easily into fantasy. D&D has enough Lovecraftian influence that Deep Ones would work fairly seamlessly. Skeksis, from the Dark Crystal. Does the horned beast Ludo from Labyrinth count as a species?
I always thought Kuo-Toa and/or Sahuagin were Deep One proxies.

For Skeksis, we have the Nagpa in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes:

Ogier from the Wheel of Time books. Gentle giants with a love for singing to trees and shaping stone into buildings.
Don't forget there was a Wheel of Time book made in 2001 (IIRC) with the D&D 3.0 ruleset that should be a source of inspiration for those who wish to bring creatures into 5th edition.

Same for any beings from the Star Wars universe -- the two editions that Wizards published (2000 and 2007) are d20-based and could be a good starting point to convert.

One day, I hope to actually play DnD.
Hmmm...have to think on this one. As soon as you introduce a highly recognizable species from another IP, your game threatens to become another genre. Like, if Wookies suddenly appear, there's no way to unring that bell.
does it though? what about wookies themselves change the genre? i recognise they come from a sci-fi home media but it's not like they inherently drag their native tech level with them if transplanted into a DnD world, is a wookee all that more out there than a minotaur or an orc or a firbolg?

unless you're talking about the idea of transplanting an entire society into the world suddenly which is just an issue of perception, that this species is just 'popping in' en masse to a world they didn't exist in before.

Probably mental dissonance. I had some strong dissonance from hobbit-proxies and real life gods being in D&D. I came to accept it, just like I could eventually accept Wookies in D&D, but it would take time.

I still give Mook from Wizardry a sideways glance now and then!

I wouldn't be too surprised if Hasbro talked with different companies and then we could see licenced creatures and races by other companies. From sci-fi shows these could appear in Spelljammer.

* The leshy from Pathfinder. They are too cute

* A lot of PC species from Starfinder.

* Some aliens from Marvel and DC but these could be nerferd.

* From Alternity, Star Frontiers and Gamma World.

pathfinder and star finder are competitors they would never lend out their options to the competition.

honestly do we have a major underdark option who are genuine good guys?
