Which race do you HATE to play?

The most annoying race?

  • Dwarves -- haven't we had enough of bad Scottish accents?

  • Elves -- these supercilious tree-huggers need to have their long lifespans shortened.

  • Gnomes -- they belong in my garden, not in my game.

  • Half-elves -- the worst of both worlds. And boring to boot.

  • Half-orcs -- their grunting grates. And the breath!

  • Halflings -- if we could just call them "Hobbits" they would be okay.

  • Humans -- I play one in real life, why play one in a game?

Interesting theory. I, too, am an elf-hating gnome-lover.

Thanks, Dark Jezter and Tonguez! I feel much better already! :)

Now that I think about it, though, I think that many of the races get a bad rap just because they are so often played to type. There is little variety in the conception of the races and their collective personalities and so the same archetype being played out over and over again could get very frustrating. From that standpoint, I can at least understand where people's feelings on PC races come from. At least I think that's the case... ;)

Cheers!

Ha, ha, this is almost exactly the same with me. I too dislike Gnomes and Halflings and they do not exist in my homebrew, but I dislike Gnomes even more than Halflings.

The gnomes will get you for that! Beware! Be very ware! ;) Seriously, though, to each his own. The munchkin in me prefers humans overall (extra feat & skill points, no class restrictions, etc.), but gnomes are my second favorite. Oh! Sorry!

I don't dislike the core PHB races. No, the races I can't stand are the "furries."

"Ooo! Ooo! Look at me! I'm an animal...but not! I'm a humanimal!"

I tell myself "that's not entirely true, you're just being mean," but whenever I see yet another PC race of anthropomorphized animals, that just screams "lack of imagination" to me.

Except for vanaras. Monkeys are cute and they throw poo to express their displeasure. Dichotomy rules.

I hate both Gnomes and Halflings with a passion. But if I had to choose just one it would be the Halflings. Neither have any place in my homebrew, and no amount of magic will change that.

Exactly! No playable race in any game of mine will be Small.

Honestly... I hate, hate, hate the Dragonlance races of gnomes, gully dwarves, and kender. Frelling terrible. Gully dwarves suck, kender are annoying, and tinker gnomes are the absolute worst idea ever. I wonder what the thought process was behind making these races?
'Ooh, let's take a really lame joke and stick it onto a race so that whenever anyone plays that race, they're playing a big joke! Absolutley brilliant!'

Wood Elves from FR are the most redundant race ever. They strike me as being a 'we need an Elf with a Str bonus' race. Who would play a Half-Orc when these things are around?

I'm not a big gnome fan really. They strike me as being... dull and depthless. Even with Eberron's cool treatment of the Core Races, the gnomes still don't grab me that much.

Well, to be completely fair, Wood Elves still do suffer a Con penalty, which means that they would on average have lower fortitude saves and hit points than a half-orc. But I do agree with you; it does seem like Wood Elves were shoehorned in because they wanted a race of "strong elves."

But I will admit that I can tolerate wood elves a lot more than Avariel or Aquatic Elves; those two are the stupidest, most pointless elf subraces of all time.

I don't really hate playing anything, but I don't remember having played a dwarf.

However, I've played with some great dwarf characters. Its elves and half-elves I find to be the more annoying of characters. With some exceptions, there doesn't seem to be anything 'elflike' about many of them. At least with dwarves it doesn't usually take long to recognise a character as one.

Half Orcs

Half Orcs- I have a problem with understanding their motivation  and their character. :o

Orcs are good villians and I like them for that role, please just do not make me play one.

I've decided to make Gnomes the central race in all of my campaigns from this day forward. They will replace Humans who will now live in burrows and eat shrews. That is all.
