Which RPG designers don't play RPGs? Are they evil?

When you are involved in the industry and you go to lots of con, you hear things.

OTOH, Monte has been known to speculate and make assertions from his perspective.

Well, this is my theory: Monte's on drugs.

I mean.. have you seen his recent works? Arcana Unearthed, Chaositech?!

Psychedelic game prods + paranoid ramblings about non-gaming game designers = Monte Cook is hopped up on goofballs.

FWIW, Loren Wiseman (formerly of GDW, now supervising the GURPS Traveller line for SJG) has openly admittedly that he doesn't play 'extracurricular' rpgs -- that he considers them "work" and on his own time would much rather play historical minis and wargames. It wouldn't surprise me if this attitude is relatively common among designers, especially older 'first generation' types who didn't grow up playing rpgs.
