FWIW, Loren Wiseman (formerly of GDW, now supervising the GURPS Traveller line for SJG) has openly admittedly that he doesn't play 'extracurricular' rpgs -- that he considers them "work" and on his own time would much rather play historical minis and wargames. It wouldn't surprise me if this attitude is relatively common among designers, especially older 'first generation' types who didn't grow up playing rpgs.
 

I really don't like the singling out and name-calling going on in this thread, and I really don't see it going anywhere fast.
