Which Social Media Platform(s) Do You Use?

Reddit is really the only social media I actually interact with on a regular basis and that's largely limited to a few subreddits. I watch videos on YouTube but never read or post comments, I have a LinkedIn account that I forget about until I decide I want to look for a new job, and I have a discord account but it's use is pretty much limited to the server I use for my weekly PF2e game so I'm not sure how much I consider those 3 to be me having an active presence on them.

I'm mostly read-only on all my social media, save here and (very rarely) Reddit, but I did just get onto Bluesky. It's taking me some time to get used to it, but I like it so far. Curating my feed is trickier than I expected, though.

I'm all about Instagram and Twitter for staying connected and sharing snippets of my life. I find them super user-friendly and engaging. By the way, have you ever heard of GetLikes.shop? It's a neat platform I stumbled upon that helps boost engagement on your posts.

I try to stay away from social media as much as i can. I had FB back in the day, deleted it around 10y ago. Same with IG. When Linkedin became mix of FB/Twitter, but for "professionals", i deactivated it. It wasn't that useful anyway.

I use Wapp and Signal for daily communication with people.
MS Teams for work (corporate account)
Pinterest for cool artwork for use in games
Reddit for funny stuff and some topical discussions.
YT- i have YT premium account so i can watch long form content on TV without adds.
Besides this one, I have active account on one other forum.

Only social media in the purest form in which i still have account is Fetlife and that's mostly for events and workshops.

UPDATE: Added a few more options to the poll, and updated my choices for 2025.

Turns out, deleting your Facebook account is a weeks-long ordeal with lots of annoying screens to click through. But I did it; the deed is done.

Facebook marks the latest in a swath of deletions, cancellations, and closures in social media for me. Over the last couple of years, I came to the realization that social media was really bad for my mental well-being. It seemed like the more I was exposed to social media, the worse I felt about myself, my life, or my job. So like an obnoxious gym rat who won't shut up about BitCoin, or a casually racist relative who makes everyone uncomfortable and doesn't seem to care, I decided I was better off without them in my life.

Blogger was the first on the chopping block; I deleted all of my blog posts one-by-one, and then deleted the account itself a year later. My Discord hit the chopping block next...and it wasn't because of data scraping (which is a problem); it was because I hadn't logged in to Discord for more than a year. (I had only set up the Discord channel to play Among Us with my buddies during the pandemic lockdowns, and we have since moved on.) Deleting my YouTube channel was a challenge--like Facebook, they bury the option under multiple "are you sure?" clickthrough screens, then tell you it can take several days to complete.

Now I'm down to just Linkedin, Reddit, and EN World. Linkedin is next on the chopping block; the last time I used it was to solicit feedback from colleagues for my Professional Engineering Licensure, and now that I have my PE, it is obsolete. I only use Reddit to browse the RPG and video game channels, but EN World is so much better (and better moderated) so my Reddit presence isn't long for this world either.

Soon it will be just me and my EN World account.

My entire social media is EN World and a few discords with local gaming groups that number in dozens to maybe a few hundred tops.

My Facebook account is still open for two reasons:
  1. My family all use Messenger for communicating. Fortunately, Messenger still works if your Facebook account is disabled.
  2. I use Facebook for the marketplace, to sell stuff. That's it. If it wasn't for this, it'd be disabled.
I wouldn't really count LinkedIn as a social media. It acts like one, but nobody goes on it at the end of a day to chill. I just use it to connect with folks in my industry, like a rolodex. So it doesn't bother me.

I have Bluesky, I hope on it with the OSR and TTRPG feeds once a week. My usage is very low.

The only one I have left really is Reddit which I use daily. I understand why some people have issues with it, but for me Reddit is the best of the internet. If you stick to smaller communities it's amazing at aggregating people together.

If being chill was a requirement, every single option on the list would be disqualified! ;)

Joking aside, the reason I'm removing myself from social media as a whole is how not chill it has become over the years. I know everyone's social media feed is different, but all of mine were incredibly polluted by ads, offensive comments, clickbait, AI-generated nonsense, chatbots, political rants, and bigotry...and it gets worse by the day. It was bad for my blood pressure. If I were to describe my social media feed in a single word, that word would not be "chill."
