Which system for a Star Wars game?

WOW guys and gals, really helpful on all accounts. I’ve read your opinion and have downloaded some of the things you recommended.

My RPG collection is pretty vast so I actually have all the options available (Savage World, SW D20 original and revised, D6 both editions and True 20) and I am looking forward to the Saga Edition.

With all your input I am going to run the options by the group I DE/GM regularly and see what they think, after all THEY are the ones who will be playing it.

I have some specific questions for the supporters of specific systems and I’ll get back to you on the next post, got to go to the weekly game.

Again, thanks!

Well, I'm happy to answer questions about TSW you might have and will be glad to hear any feedback you might have, assuming you end up playing it.

If you need the jedi to balance well against the other characters, use D20. If you only need the jedi to balance against other jedi, D6 is a viable way to go (definitely 2nd Edition, Revised and Expanded). However, even in this latter case, D20 will get the job done.

Be warned - D6 is *very* fast and loose, and there aren't rules covering a great deal of "every day" adventure situations. Still, it's a fun system, and not so different from D20 that players will get hopelessly lost.

I've played the aforementioned Savage Worlds Star Wars conversion and had more fun with that than I've had since I played the original D6 Weg rules back in the day. Its fast and feels like Star Wars should feel, IMO.

Again thank you all for the feedback. The group I DM/GM for regularly seems mostly interested in running the SW campaign. As I said in the original post we’ll be re-imagining Episodes 1, 2 and 3 based on what little is told on Episodes IV, V and VI.

The system seems to be an afterthought, but there are some definite strong opinions on some of the players.

At least one of the players HATES SW D20 with a passion. Two are big fans of the D6 system, and one at least really doesn’t care what system it is as long as I run a Star Wars game.

All of the options that have been presented are open, and the current D&D game will most likely run until March so waiting for the Saga Edition may be feasible.

I have some more specific questions but it is late (1:30 AM my time) and they will have to wait until tomorrow…

I can say that I have however failed my save and purchased SW miniatures from WotC. Woe me!

Hahaha… Later!

Why the woe? Is WEG making making new minis?

*chuckles sinister* :]

P.S. Don't worry about one of your game-fellow. I HATE d6 with a passion.

Thats what I was going to say. From what I have read from one of the writers it really sounds like it might adress some of the issues people have with the Force and Jedi.

Very true.

In fact, I had started doing my own True20 StarWars when the announcement of the Saga Edition piqued my interest, and I put my plans on hold while I wait to see what SWSE does with their rules...

Personally I think that True20 and Savage Worlds both would work pretty good for Star Wars (I would house rule a couple of things for Savage World, mostly HtH damage, Bennies for XP, etc).

I ran a very fun and fairly long version of a Tales of the Jedi game were EVERYONE was Jedi using Mutants and Masterminds 1st ed. I am not sure it would work in 2nd ed with all the revisions etc but with True20 I think you got some good stuff there.

I am also waiting for Saga to see if I want to try that also :) I am a system junkie I guess

Actually, I should have mentioned this earlier -- Risus Star Warshttp://tailkinker.contrabandent.com/starwars.pdf. It gives you the fast and loose of the D6 System, the easy customization of True20, and the balance of D20 (seriously -- if you use the rules for When Someone Can't Participate, Risus is no less balanced than standard D20 games). And it's 100% free. . .

Herehttp://www.rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=13477&gn=[RISUS]+Star+Wars:+Inquisitors&date=1153424453 is a link to a popular Risus Star Wars PBP game. If you doubt that Risus can be any of the things that I say it can be directly above, you should definitely check this out. Mmmm. . . actual play. And. . .

Here is a link to an RPGnet thread about somebody who was pondering Risus for use as a Star Wars system (I think it's worth looking at, as at least one of the posters says thay've run a Risus Star Wars campaign in the past).

Anyhow, in retrospect, I might actually go Risus rather than D6, for the reasons mentioned earlier in this post. Risus is Grade A Good for a free game system.
