One choice only.

I'll pick Greyhawk just because I have fond memories of the 1E boxed set.

However, I also have fond memories of the 1E FR boxed set.

Plus, Al-Qadim, Spelljammer and Planescape are very interesting.

None of the others did much for me, however.

I gotta go with Mystara , too many fond early experiences for anything else to compete with , although in my day it we called it The Known World. :)

Didn't see Blackmoor on the list.

Sorry, forgot about Blackmoor.

But did Blackmoor ever have a *true* core-setting book? I know there's Supplement III: Blackmoor but I've never seen it.

I think someone once told me that those early supplements weren't *campaign settings*, as such, but more of a kind of *rules expansion*.

I don't know, however. Someone will have to clear me up on that. :)

I voted Mystara, but it's really (as The Sigil said) more appropriately the Known World. The Gazetteers are hands down some of the best nation books TSR ever produced. I don't use the Hollow World concept (though I do steal the nations for other un-Known World areas. I also wholely avoid Wrath of the Immortals breaking the whole darn setting.

Dark Sun is a close second. Most original concept TSR ever came up with, IMHO. Oddly, PS and SJ were just too out there for me to get in to.

FR is just too non-sensical to me when taken as a whole (I love portions, and use them in the Known World. Kara-Tur, for instance, does provide a lot of the flavor I use for Mystara, and Al-Qadim lends itself well to Ylaruam).

GH just doesn't do much for me. Not even much to steal really.

Blackmoor is part of both Mystara and Greyhawk, in addition to being it's own setting. It's in the pre-history of Mystara (the Blackmoor humans nearly destroyed the planet). It was detailed thusly in the DA module series. It's in the north west/central area of the large Greyhawk map as an existing area in modern GH. As it's own setting, it builds around a mix of technology and sword-and-sorcery.

From my understanding, but I could be wrong, the Blackmoor humans of Mystara came from their own plane of existance. Is this true?

I *think* that's how the DA adventures are presented. Blackmoor isn't a part of the Mystara world; it's another world attached to the Mystara cosmology.

Planescape, hands down. There's never been a greater setting to explore.

The OD&D Blackmoor supplement has very little setting information. It has some rules and stuff plus the Temple of the Frog adventure.

I seem to recall that Judges Guild did some sort of Blackmoor inspired world, but I may be wrong.

If we're talking about WotC/TSR settings, perhaps Rokugan should be included as well.

Mystara Baby!

The Known World was the best ever. By mystara, I hope you are also including Hollow WOrld, and the Savage Coast.

Red Steel seems like it was a terrific setting, btw. Unfortunatly I have never gotten a chance to play it. You can download it for free from wizards though. So now my OD&D group is planning a trip around the world. I convinced the GM to let me take over for a bit, as the party's airship (we are 22+ level) makes its way to the savage baronies!
