Whip improvements?

Artoomis

First Post
I have made up a couple of feats (see this discussion) to alleviate some of the disadvantages of a whip: this seems to me to be very much in line with other feats, in general, that improve upon certain aspects of combat or of wielding specific weapon types.

My question, though, is not about the feats I made up but about 3.5 rules for whips - are there any feats/prestige classes published in any WotC 3.5 material that improve upon a whip? Specifically, that allow:
1. Avoiding cover. (Precise Strike from Eberron does this for any melee weapon requiring only BAB +5.)
2. Avoid provoking an AoO when using the whip.
3. Allow the whip to threaten the area around it as other weapons do.
4. Allow special tricks with the whip - think "Indiana Jones" here.

Sorry if this has been asked an answered before, but alas, I cannot search.

No...but if you want a whip-like weapon, my advice, look at something like say...a whipsword in Warren of the Ratmen. That might be more up your alley.

Just a suggestion.

What is a "whipsword?" I am not familiar with it.

Whipsword is a short sword that can "extend" outward to deal more damage in a reach fashion.

If you've ever watched any anime or even start watching anime now, watch Inuyasha's "Shinitara"/Band of Seven arc. One of the characters, Jakostu, has something similar to that.

Need more details?

Please. If nothing else, it may sway my DM in allowing my custom feats, if nothing published by WotC can be found.

Hi there!

Although it's 3.0 and not 3.5, what you're looking for is the Lasher prestige class from "Sword and Fist." It takes a small amount of retroftitting to make work in 3.5E, because the whip used to be considered a ranged weapon, but we worked it out with little difficulty.

Class abilities include:

- whip attacks don't draw AoOs.
- you can use a whip to take AoO's.
- you can use the whip to make "Indiana Jones"-style maneuvers. :)

Piratecat's character in my campaign has several levels of lasher; it's pretty cool!

Ranger man,

Good choice. But then you are kind of biased since you wrote it. ;)

Art,

It's not a FEAT it's a new weapon. Not sure it will help but if you want a whip-like weapon, it's certainly an option to consider.

I'll try to find the stats. Email me@ nighttfall@yahoo.com I'll send you back a reply with the appropriate info.
