Whirlwind Attack feat and Pounce

friarjaker

First Post
One of my players had a question about creating barbarian with a pounce-like ability and using it in conjunction with whirlwind attack feat. With pounce you are able to make a full-attack on a charge, and you use the full-attack action for using that feat. I have tried looking for a thread related to this on other websites and found nothing so far. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

if it helps he is asking about the spirit totem acf from complete champion and choosing the lion for the barbarian. it does grant him pounce.

Pounce lets you make a full attack at the end of a charge, whirlwind is its own full-round action and does not involve charging. They can't really be combined.

No, I think it reads as if WWA modifies a full attack action, not being its own full round action.

Benefit
When you use the full attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach.

It seems more balanced than the ability to pounce in the first place too ;) Feats :: d20srd.org
Pounce is actually balanced, if we compare to spells.

Mages get to unleash the full potential of their arcane spells in one standard action. Shouldn't melee be able to do that too?

Hm. Let's examine the abilities then.

Pounce

When a creature with this special attack makes a charge, it can follow with a full attack—including rake attacks if the creature also has the rake ability.

Whirlwind Attack [General]

Prerequisites

Dex 13, Int 13, Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit

When you use the full attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach.
When you use the Whirlwind Attack feat, you also forfeit any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats, spells, or abilities.

It seems to stack, unless the full attack you get from Pounce is not a full attack action. (They may not be the same, as WotC can be a bit sloppy with definitions...)

Thanks for the help everyone. I've talked to my player and I told him i would allow it because of the whole "full attack action" wording. thanks again for the contributions!!!
