Whirlwind Attack vs Invisibility

Hypersmurf

Moderatarrrrh...
The opponent is invisible.

You don't have him pinpointed.

You're pretty sure he's in one of the eight squares around you, but you can't be certain.

You make a Whirlwind Attack.

What happens?

I'm fairly sure you need to declare grapples, and Whirlwind attack is a full-round action, so you can't do it and a grapple in the same round anyway...

You have several grapple attempts with several attacks by BAB, you start a grapple with an attack... I see no problem.

IMC, whirlwind attack has become pretty useful against invisible enemies, whether with trip attacks or grapples.

And you still have to get close enough to the enemy.

Whirlwind attack lets you make up to eight attacks in a round - are you suggesting it should allow you to start eight grapples? How could that possibly work?

No it wouldn't cause you couldn't go ahead with it as soon as you started one (no whirlwind attacks during a grapple). But grabbing around with the melee touch attack would be possible, wouldn't it? It might looks silly, but who cares how cool you look if you have to fight against some invisible dudes :D?

From the SRD on Whirlwind Attack
Benefit: When the character performs the full attack action, he or she can give up all regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at the full base attack bonus against each opponent within 5 feet.

I would say "give up all regular attacks" and "melee attack" imply that you could not whirlwind-grapple, but whirlwind-trip should be ok. I didn't find anything on this in the FAQ.

There is a specific rule about making two touch attacks a round to determine if an invisible person is in a square, right? This means a series of feats should give you more touch attacks.

I would allow a person to make touch attacks into all squares around them. When they hit some one (and make the 50% check) they have pinpointed the invisible character. The other characters of the party would do well to delay untill after the WWA goes off.

Anything that can be used inpace of a melee attack can be used in a WW.

If you can trip you can grapple you can disarm

Can you prove that for whirlwind? FAQ, sage, published example? I think it is open to interpretation.
