White Wolf can take their Web Extras & Shove it!

Folks in Europe have been using recyclable long-term/permanent grocery bags for decades without their arms falling off. We'll adapt, because this is going to be something that all the grocery stores will do eventually.

Literally. Did you hear the news recently on that grocery store chain that will soon be charging its customers 5 cents per plastic bag used to bag any groceries bought?

They also offer a 59 cent "deal" for a reusable bag that looks like a fancily folded blue tarp. :\

I am only glad that I do not have one of those stores near where I live, and I feel a bit of pity for those that do - and hope they have other grocery stores near by from which to buy their food.

They are starting to introduce that in Australia at the moment. Reusable bags, similar to the ones that you described are becoming much more common as a result.

Personally I think it is a very positive move considering how many of them end up in landfill, taking many, many years to break down. Resuable bags are much, much better for the environment in my opinion.

To get back on topic, I personally would have been surprised to find a cost attached to something advertised as a "Web Extra". At the very least they should have advertised the fact that there was a cost attached to the "extra" in the book.

I had just made a BIG investment (for me) into WoW RPG with purchasing their PHB, Monster book, More Magic & Mayhem, & Lands of Mystery---I saw the afore mentioned web extra of the animals & expected it (from the wording) to be a freebie & was rather annoyed when it wasnt.

Will I eventually get it? Probably, but not for a while as it is easy enough to convert animals from other sources.

Just my 2 cents;)

Additionally, discounters sell their bags separately to push the price of the other things down - but with a book, it's of course an entirely different animal. And most stores don't advertise with "Extra Bags for you convenience".

Eh. As long as Aldi sells its goods at lower prices than Wal-Mart, I think I can live with bringing my own bag, and packing my own groceries...

I've been doing this for the past 5 years or so. It's really convieniant not to have so many darn plastic bags around the house. I try to recyle when I can, but I'm not 100% all the time so using a canvas bag is the sure-fire way for me to reduce plastic consumption.

Material that wasn't properly included in the Great Pendragon Campaign from Arthaus (aka White Wolf's other imprint) had a charge. White Wolf owns DrivethruRPG, so it makes sense that they'd use that to generate additional sales from electronic supplements to books. The complaint from the Pendragon folks was that this should have been in the book in the first place. "Cutting room floor" material is much maligned by consumers who don't understand how the publishing process works.

Note that I am not advocating they do this (charge for web extras) but I can see why they're doing it.

Cheers,
Cam

Pretty pathetic. It wasn't right for them to do that, but I doubt it was something done to intentionally mislead you. You do have a right to be annoyed, and WW needs to hear about it (not that I think they care).

As for the grocery bags: don't be fooled, it's a way for supermarkets to make more profit by cutting their own expenses and will last only as long as the customer says it's ok or shops there. Like all companies their goal is to give you less and for more money, this is just one more way.
As for the environment/recycle issues . . .I'll be dead in 20yrs . . .who cares, someone else can deal with it. :D

Vraille,

Necromancer ain't dead yet. Maybe undead, but not dead. They have a year and Clark says something very promising is in the works to keep them going.

I have never liked WW. I like Necromancer, Arthaus, and Malhavoc, but not WW themselves.

I have been very tempted to check out Exalted, but have never given in simply because I have never liked how WW does business and disrespects their "fans" so often on such petty levels.

The only time I ever gave in to trying out something of theirs is the Jyhad CCG. Then they did that pathetic excuse to change it to Vampire: The Masquarade and resell me the same friggin cards. Other than Engel that is the last time I ever committed myself to anything WW.

I've only bought D&D stuff from them for my own reasons, not because of any of their sales pitches. Then they still pulled some pretty shoddy stuff on their customers. Other than Warcraft, Necromancer, and Malhavoc, I haven't bought anything with the WW name on it for 4+ years now.

I was surprised when I saw the "web enhancement" for sale at dtrpg.com. I haven't seen the actual monster book there yet.
