White Wolf can take their Web Extras & Shove it!

Um, no. That was a misunderstanding of a license that

A) did not mean what people took it to mean, and

B) would only have applied to specific types of formal organizations anyway.

I'm happy to call them on BS when it's real, but not when it's not.

Did you read the license? Because it was a world apart from the description White Wolf executives gave it. The actual wording was way too broad. White Wolf deserved the backlash they received.

Exactly. What White Wolf said the license was for, and how the license actually read were two different things.

What the license said was that if you collect any money from your players, you are expected to pay them. So, if, like us, you collect money to cover expenses for a website, or like others who cover costs for location, or heck, even gathering money for pizza... White Wolf gets a slice.

Sure, no one would actually do it, and they couldn't really enforce it (hence it being withdrawn, too much backlash for too little return), but that they would try it says a lot about their business practices.

Literally. Did you hear the news recently on that grocery store chain that will soon be charging its customers 5 cents per plastic bag used to bag any groceries bought?

They also offer a 59 cent "deal" for a reusable bag that looks like a fancily folded blue tarp. :\

I am only glad that I do not have one of those stores near where I live, and I feel a bit of pity for those that do - and hope they have other grocery stores near by from which to buy their food.

Laughing, ALDI has been doing that for years (going on 15+, they claim it is one of the ways to keep food costs down). But instead of plastic bags, its 5 cents for a paperbag, and I believe 75 cents for a resuable larger plastic bag.

Some companies give stuff away for free, some don't. The Wolf will charge so long as people will pay, that's just a fact of business.

If nobody buys this, I wouldn't be surprised to see them either stop putting the extra material out there, or just do one for free.

I have never liked WW. I like Necromancer, Arthaus, and Malhavoc, but not WW themselves.

So you hate WW, but not another company with exactly the same staff and executives?

The only time I ever gave in to trying out something of theirs is the Jyhad CCG. Then they did that pathetic excuse to change it to Vampire: The Masquarade and resell me the same friggin cards. Other than Engel that is the last time I ever committed myself to anything WW.

Actually, nothing of the sort happened. Only the card backs changed, which did not affect game play. It was always possible to mix cards in casual games. See:

I've only bought D&D stuff from them for my own reasons, not because of any of their sales pitches. Then they still pulled some pretty shoddy stuff on their customers. Other than Warcraft, Necromancer, and Malhavoc, I haven't bought anything with the WW name on it for 4+ years now.

I submit that purchasing four lines from a company you hate is a less than effective way of making your desires as a consumer known.

Are you telling me you don't understand that Necromancer and Malhavoc were only published by WW, all creative control and creative decisions were made by the individuals that own Necromancer (Bill Webb and Clark Peterson) and Malhavoc (Monte Cook).

I thought you were better informed about these kinds of things.

Arthaus, I am not sure of how their relationship works, I just assumed they were operating like Necro and Malhavoc. I am starting to suspect they may be controlled by WW to a much greater extent than the other two are.

Yes, you are right, it doesn't ruin casual play (Jyhad/Vampire), but if I wanted to continue in tournaments I would have had to buy them all over again. So I didn't, and quit buying, period.

I think he knows that Malhavoc and Necromancer were publishing partners only. I imagine he is, indeed, referring to Arthaus, which isn't a separate company at all. Like Sword & Sorcery, it's purely a division of White Wolf. Same management, same staff, same everything.

Folks in Europe have been using recyclable long-term/permanent grocery bags for decades without their arms falling off.

On the upside, if that changes, they will have a bag handy in which to carry arms. ;)
