White Wolf - Ending of World of Darkness

Quick note, but Vampire had Vampire, then Vampire 2nd Edition, then Vampire 2nd edition revised.

Yes, but...

In going from Vampire:the Masquerade to V:tM 2nd Ed, to V:tM Revised, The revised the system a bit. They also moved the metaplot forward, but did not revise the setting.

Now, they are revising the setting. It will be "World of Darkness 2.0" and "Vampire: the Requiem", the new game, with a new name, for that setting.

I doubt Hunters will make the transition though.

I wouldn't expect Hunters, specifically because of their place within the old WoD metaplot. While Vamps and Weres and Magi are fantasy icons in and of themselves, the Hunters were a figment of the World of Darkness.

Oh, I dunno, I'd say vampire hunters are a pretty firmly established fantasy (or horror) convention. Where there is a Dracula, there will be a Van Helsing.

When he says Hunters, he means the Imbued from Hunter: the Reckoning. There will still be plenty of small-h hunters roaming around WoD 2.0 to play with.

Could you go into a little bit of detail. I heard of Hunter and that they have other abilities but what does this imbued mean and who gave it to them?
I heard something about the messengers but is it explained who they are?

I don't suppose WW is going to make it d20 capatable? Some times it just nice to already know the rules and just get into the setting

Ye gods no. Bad move.

Just MHO, of course, but...

Nothing against d20, but it just wouldn't feel.....right.

I'm interested in seeing what they come up with. The group has enjoyed Vampire a great deal in the past, and I played on a Werewolf MUSH for over seven years. We never really cared about the metaplot; we didn't even use anything past the first few books, so we had our own version of the Sabbat, etc. By the time WW got around to putting out books on things we'd already defined it was just too late.

I'd be especially interested in a version of Changeling. The first attempt.. just left me cold, even after they changed it substancially in the revision.

Exactly who or what the Messengers are is not even revealed in the core Hunter: The Reckoning rulebook. Some spiritual force(s) decides that all the supernatural critters roaming around (vamps, weres, magi, etc) and mucking up the world are too much, and start granting power to otherwise normal humans to try to combat the threat.

Some say the force is the collective will of Sleeping humanity. Others claim the Messengers are spirits of the dead slain by other supernaturals. Others claim they are angelic beings. In the core book, it is left up to the Storyteller to decide. The Hunters themselves don't know where their power comes from.

I'm personally hoping that the WoD Core Rules is essentially the "Hunter's Hunted" book for the new setting. Get the normal human hunters right there in the main rulebook, then add the supernatural splatbooks (Vampire, etc.).

White Wolf won't do it. They get an anti-D&D reputation to uphold.

But they could let one of their subsidiaries to do it. After all, White Wolf did allow Steve Jackson Games to make GURP versions of their two games in the past.
