Who are the great artists?

After being disappointed by the new 4e covers, I've been wondering about who are the fantasy art artists and who I like.

I really like the art of Todd Lockwood. Excellent depictions of beautiful evocative scenes, complex pictures, and characters with character.

The artist I like best is probably Louis Royo. Unfortunately, he doesn't make too much fantary art, at least not that grandma would approve of. But his women are beautiful, his art sharp and his use of light illuminating, and his fantasy creatures and weapons intersting. Some more grandma-suitable pictures:

My fave D&D artists are: Michael Komarck, Wayne Reynolds, Todd Lockwood, Ron Spencer, Lucio Parrillo, Erol Otus, Clyde Caldwell and Larry Elmore.

That has to be just about the most impractical outfit ever.
:) Definitely. I guess she took of the breatplate after the fight...

I really like the way her face shows up under the light, though. It's beautiful.

Personally, I particularly like Elmore and Brom.
I definitely like Elmore a lot. I mean, who can compete with that? I was disappointed with his late pictures, however, like this one, where the characters seem somehow too artificial, not real.

Brom I'm not really familiar with.

Interesting. His Cthulhu is stunning. So is his Dragon in Archives, or Avandu. Excellent use of exposition. A few unnatural poses - see the twisted girl here, and here. I like many of his pictures, e.g. this, this, this, this, and more. Thanks for introducing us. :)

Wayne Reynolds
Yeah.... he's good, but I don't like his faces. I mean, look at this or this - these people seem to have mouse faces. I don't get why - he certainly knows to draw proper faces. See an angry dwarf, or evocative wizard. Got some strange unnatural positions at times, too, like how he holds the sword. A very good artist, though. I like his pictures where he doesn't distort faces, like this, or when the topics aren't human, like his ettercap. I especially like how he handles pictures rich in detail and action, like here.

Ron Spencer
Another name I don't know. a bit cartoonish and unnatural at times, for my taste. Does excellent high detail monsters, though.

Lucio Parrillo
Nice. Some very interesting pictures. Most are a bit unrealistic (cartoonish) for my taste, but he has some very life-like ones like here or the here so clearly it is a matter of choice.

Erol Otus
I can't say I'm a fan. Far too cartoonish to me.

Clyde Caldwell
I really like some of his work, like here, but I find some of his pictures just not appealing, like here. Can't really say why.

You'd have to read the novels to know, but that's a kalashtar psion. She's floating through telekinesis in those pictures, so they're perfectly natural poses.
