epochrpg, you're on a roll so far, but can you please be so kind as to make a reference to anime and video games? My Trolling Grognard Bingo card is *this* close to being full!

*crosses fingers*

Okay, here goes: Anime? Videogames? What kind of new-fangled contraptions are those? You teenagers with your fancy made-up words! :p

BINGO!

Bah. Hitting Each Other With Sticks (date unknown) is the one true game. All others are just poor imitations of the real thing.
Your Mom is the one true game.

I think I've threadjacked for long enough; watch as I desparately try to get this thread back on track by backing up the previous recommendations of Steve Prescott; I'm a huge, huge fan of his work. While I love WAR's work, especially his Eberron covers, Prescott has really been the one to define the look and feel of the setting moreso than other artists. I hope they continue to use him for a long, long time.

I just downloaded a bunch of art from Raymond Swanland's website.

He's done a bunch of novel covers for FR, a few Eberron novels, some non-RPG novels (such as the latest Glen Cook novel, for example) and was a design guy for Oddworld. I could stand to see him doing art for D&D.

Also got some Matt Stawicki. He's done a bunch of Dragonlance novel covers.

In general, regardless of who does the art, I'd like to see more paintings and less illustrations. That's what made WAR really "pop" for me; seeing him do something other than a few characters with a white backdrop and the vaguest hints of something that they're standing on. Full-on paintings? Holy crap, suddenly I realized this guy was good.

It looks like a typical high guard position; left foot out, as it should be.

No it doesn't. It may resemble that, but his hands are all wrong. In order to have your arms in a position that would be comfortable to strike from, his fist should be reversed (thumb at the bottom) and its not. And in High Guard IIRC, you don't grip the sword underhanded. Whatever though. I think it looks dumb. :)
