Who Do You Want Illustrating 4th Ed.?

Dragonblade

Lockwood for dramatic set pieces. Mimura and Reynolds for cinematic action scenes.

Sam Wood for pics that represent classes, races, and monsters.

And I want to see 4e Dark Sun with nothing but Brom art, and 4e Planescape with nothing but D'Terlizzi (spelling?) art.

Of the 3e guys, I'd love to see the guy who did the covers for the Dragon Below series do more for 4e. He's amazing at doing both people and complex lighting.

That's Michael Komarck. That's a good choice. He's done some really awesome stuff. I really like his art from A Song of Ice & Fire.

I'd like to see some newcomers on the scene personally. I love WAR's and Lockwood's work but there is so much more out there if you're willing to go out and find it.

From the previous thread (plus a few more), a few links to various artists, styles and pieces I found one day. And this is from perhaps an hour or two of looking at what's out there...

Are you in love with classic fantasy painting, where the armor isn't ridiculous, the wizards have beards, the poses are static, and realism is the name of the game?

Yes. That dungeonpunk stuff is lame-- turning my medieval fantasy role-playing game into a rainbow-mowhawk spiked leather free-for-all. And halflings should be hairfeet, live in burrows, and like warmth & comfort. Enough of this 'lightfoot" crap.

My hat of WAR know no limit.

I don't have any particular preference towards art, other than that I despise WAR's art with a passion.

I think a fair mix of art would be nice. I don't like the comic-book look, but I can deal with it. I'm not a fan of old-school high-fantasy art, but I can deal with it. So long as it looks nice and fits the subject matter, the art isn't all too important.

But seriously, WAR needs to go. The covers for the 4e books look horrid. I have yet to see a piece he has done that I've looked at and had anything better than a mildly negative reaction towards.

As long as the "dungeonpunk" style dies, I'm pretty happy.

I am tired of the patented "Lockwood skirt" of lames/strips/whatever that all his characters' outfits seem to sport.

Oh, and Lars Grant-West needs to suffer for what he did to armour in the 3rd edition PHB. I hope WotC never employs him again.

I'd like to see Graham Turner www.studio88.co.uk illustrate the 4th edition core books. I mean, why not? Wayne Reynolds already intruded on Turner's Osprey book territory; turnabout is fair play...

I wanna see plate armour that looks like real armour, not some junkyard scraps that look like they were hastily pieced together in a rough semblance of armour by drunken gremlins...

I'm not a big fan of WAR, but I don't hate his art, however. I simply think it should not be on most cover : the scowls and the bizarro poses are tiring. And most of his characters have far to many muscles.
But I would rather have WAR than most 2e artist. Pleeeaaase : no gandalf clone.

My favorite ?
Lockwood, S. Wood and Di Terlizzi.
