Who Else Has Never Been To Gen Con?

Never been, although I have been to Origins many times. I remember really, really, REALLY wanting to go in hish school and being bummed that I couldn't make it. Somehow I missed the memo on the major convention that took place in Columbus, lol.

I intend to go to Gencon someday, although its start date usually coincides with back to school time (I'm a teacher) so it may be awhile.

Conventions of all kinds suck if you just show up and attend the events on the program.

I think that depends upon the convention. WorldCon (the yearly convention of the World Science Fiction Society), for example, has a great deal of interesting and insightful programming. So much that one can, if one desires, have no time for socializing whatsoever during the con itself. Certain professional conferences, too, are loaded with classes and programming that is relevant and interesting to the professionals in question.

If, of course, your major intent is to find cool people to hang out with, you're entirely correct.

Never have been, been playing Dungeons and Dragons for over 20 years and have never been. Being in Alaska, we kind of get neglected up here. Never really wanted to travel to one either.

Never been, though my dad and I are going to try to take a day trip down there this year and see how the artists area is arranged. He does up fantasy art (been out at the Mich Ren Fest for 16 or 17 years now) and I've *finally* convinced him to start going around to the various comic/gaming conventions. He's having a blast, plus I get in as an assistant. :-)

I've never been to any convention, and doubt I'll be able to afford it anytime in the forseeable future either. :( Unless I win the lottery, or pull a miracle outta my *bleep* and become a successful business owner instead of a perpetually-misfortunate college student/minimum-wage-worker.

If I ever do manage to scrounge up a few hundred spare bucks, though, I really would like to go to Gencon or the like.
