D&D 4E Who has rights to BoEF, and are they in on the 4e OGL

Xethreau

Josh Gentry - Author, Wanderer
I have to say that one of the best 3e third party product I have ever read, but only just recently read, was the Book of Erotic Fantasy. I heard that the book got its d20 lisence taken away because of violating quality standards, and as such, I am concerned about the books fate in 4e. Does anybody who currently owns rights to the book, and if they are planning on getting into 4e?

This is not intended to be a thread about anything not permitted on the boards, but as a discussion regarding the fate of this product in 4e.

Anthony Valterra was the lead, I believe, with Gwendolyn Kestrel (Andy Collins' wife, I recall?). I honestly haven't heard from Anthony V on the forums in a while, and I don't know if he's left the gaming industry completely or not.

That particular "contribution" to the gaming community was from The Valar Project - as far as I know, it was their only book. I seriously doubt that it or them is going to make the jump to 4e, since the company apparently called it quits after that, leaving a seriously unfulfilled need for elf boobies in the game.

EDIT: And it looks like their website is sitting fallow, so the "calling it quits" guess looks pretty accurate.

I certainly hope someone picks up where they left off - BoEF was a wonderful, well thought out mature guide to dealing with another segment of life that role playing games often avert their eyes from and pretend doesn't exist due, I presume, to America's puritanical sense of morals and ethics. It is a far better resource, in my opinion, than it's philosophical forebear the Netbook of Carnal Knowledge. Ideally I would love it if the same folks or at least other professionals did it, but I would be more than satisfied with a community effort netbook. This is a resource I long to use in my games, when I find an appropriate group... not because I want to run a sex centered game by any means, but because I want to run a game that truly enables characters of all walks of life, of all stations of life, with all the myriad possibilities life holds occurring. A bit of death occurs in most D&D with combat - I'd like a bit of the birth end of the circle of life to be present as well.

Well, apparently from the description of the new OGL terms, it wouldn't be allowed under "community standards." Which is a totally retarded thing to put into the OGL. Of course we're not allowed to even read the OGL unless we're a company waving $5k. Suck.

And just out of idle curiousity do those new more restrictive community standards mean we'll not be seeing a Book of Vile Darkness? If they can do natural and supernatural evil on steroids (which I also think is a good idea - D&D isn't just kids any more, there should be adult content available for adult games) I think we should at least be able to create something about the simple "birds and the bees"

Too bad the community in question happens to be an American community...

Can you imagine if the "community standards" were more along the lines of Amsterdam community standards?
Don't derail the conversation into a discussion of nationalistic mores, please.

Hey, you realize that this is currently in the OGL and has been for at least two years, right? It was added soon after the BoEF.

Side track: It's just in the d20 STL (version 6), the OGL is still at version 1.0a according to Wizards' d20 system license site. Anthoiny Valterra was trying to rush it into production in 2003 because he knew the d20 STL was changing and wanted it to still be d20 stamped; however, if I recall correctly, it was OGL, just not d20-stamped.

Last I knew, White Wolf had acquired and was distributing BoEF. I don't know if they plan to do any sort of follow up, however.

Edit: Linky to White Wolf's online store product page.
