Who mugged the Sword Sage?

We've seen a lot of X killed Y and took his stuff.

Frex Ranger killed the scout and took his stuff.

We can presume the Paladin and the Warlord ganged up on the Crusader and Knight split their stuff.

Probably Fighter mugged the Warblade.

So who ganked the Swordsage? He had some petty sweet stuff and I'd like to see it going forward. :D

Personally, I hope the swordsage wins that fight. The monk flavor and name are deeply inferior.

Although with the new gish being called "swordmage" for some damn reason, I guess "swordsage" wouldn't really fly either.

Indeed. It would be like having two classes named "warlord" and "warlock". :p

I agree.

But name is an issue...

Monk is a terrible name. It is a word with a single distinct and clear meaning that has nothing to do with the class concept.

Swordsage is a great name, but it and swordmage (which is also a good name) trip over each other too much.

I never liked Kensai.

This is difficult...

I'm pretty sure that the Fighter and Paladin are getting stuff from the Knight. The Fighter might get a few goodies from the Warblade.

The Warlord sounds like he took a lot of stuff from the Warblade. Particularly, the White Raven stuff.

I think the swordsage can hold its own. Hopefully he's coming back in some form.

I've always hated fighter/mage hybrids, because magic has so few synergies with combat. Yes, you can stand still and cast a spell that helps you fight in combat next round. But if you want to integrate magic and combat into one thing, D&D is typically pretty weak on those grounds.

The swordsage fixed that, at least for me. I rather hope for an even broader swordsage, with more magical disciplines than just Shadow Hand and Desert Wind.

Monk's a bad name, but it's a bad name with a history, and there aren't much better names lying around. "Mystic" isn't bad, but it emphasizes those qualities of a monk I'd rather deprecate. Bleah.

I was about to say "you and I like the swordsage for different reasons", but honestly I like the gish aspect of it too.

Now that I think about it, the swordsage might be deserving of being split into two classes - one arcane, one martial.

The fighter, rogue, monk, and swordmage will all gang up on the swordsage and carve him into bits. The fighter takes the plain combat powers, rogue steals the remaining nonmagical parts, monk learns how to turn invisible and teleport through shadows, and swordmage gets flashy blade magic.
