I, just last week, for the first time in 19 years, played (as in, being a Player) with someone I can happily call a Good DM. I DM about 98.7% of the time I roleplay, perhaps I can now lower that number somewhat...

Not that I don't like DMing, I far prefer it to playing (but, then, maybe that's because I haven't played with a good DM...). I like the preparation (well, most of it...maps aren't much fun), the control (I like control the pacing, IME, not many people understand how to do that very well, unfortunately), and I love throwing out those plot twists that make the players stare at me slack-jawed. I threw out a zinger in fact, yesterday at the end of our latest session, that was apparantly cause for a moment of silence as they tried to comprehend the information I had just brought forth. Hehe, I love that! :)

It's funny. I think most D&Ders who frequent these D&D sites are DMs. Players, in my experience, aren't as invested (*cough* obsessed *cough* ;)) with the hobby.

I wouldn't call myself obsessed with the hobby -- I've been a "fringe" member for years who kinda followed the game, didn't really pick up books all that often and didn't play for years. After 3e's release, I started actually playing and buying more stuff again.

But I've always preferred GMing, I think. That's what I enjoy most about the hobby is creating the setting and the framework for adventure.

DMing by far

I prefer to DM rather than play because of the power that the DM is granted. There is just something about having everybodies attention on you and the players hanging on your every word. When playing I sometimes get bored when other players are out doing things and I have to sit by quietly. Although I enjoy playing, Dming is where its at!

I really love being the DM, but I also like to be a player. I wouldn't want to give up either, but if I could only do one, I'd DM.

Well I like GMing, but then for me it is about playing a campaign no-one else seems to be willing to run.

I wiould rather play then GM in the end.

I voted I do, but it depends, sometime DMing can become a chore, especially if you've started to lose interest in the current campaign. Say your stuck running D&D when you've just bought your D20 Modern rulebook and are thinking about your next campaign.

Really I don't mind if I play or DM, as long as I'm in the right mood for it. The advantage of being a player is that if you arn't in the mood that evening you can take a backseat and let the other 4 or 5 players take the lead and just take it easy. As a DM you never get that option, and if you don't put the effort into the game, then its likely the players will notice.
