Who should be the new James Bond? (merged with "Brosnan Quits" Thread)

As for Bronson, well Goldeneye is at the top of my Bond movie list running a close 2 to Goldfinger, but the other tree he has done were lackluster at best.
Goldeneye was pretty good, and the tank chase scene through the streets of St. Petersburg would just about top my list of coolest scenes ever on film. It would, that is, if it wasn't for that cheesy part where the statue was on top of his tank...

i'd like to see Obi Wan as the next Bond. ;)

Which brings to mind the image of a zombified Sir Alec Guiness lurching into the scene and bantering with Ms. Moneypenny...

You're going to have stirred up a hornet's nest with that... I think Dalton was by far the best. The scripts and films he was involved with weren't that good, but his portrayal of the character was better than any of the other four.
I dunno... Living Daylights was my favorite film; much better than the cheesier ones that came before. As much as people are nostalgic about the old Connery films, I think it was better than that too. It was, at least, borderline realistic as well.

If Pierce Brosnan has been given the boot, I think I'm finally done watching Bond movies. There comes a time to just retire a movie franchise, and I think Bond has gotten to that point.
I couldn't agree with this more - especially considering some of the actors they are considering for the part of Bond: Jude Law, Colin Farrell, or Hugh Jackman? Holy crap, those are terrible choices. Thankfully, I'd save myself some money if the studio went forward with such idiocy.

Diaglo makes a good point - that Ewan Macgregor might make an interesting Bond. However, his voice is not deep enough for bond. One of the shared characteristics was that Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, and Brosnan all had deep voices, with Brosnan's possibly being the lightest voice of the bunch.

MacGregor's voice sounds too "soft" to my ear to fill the resonance of Bond - though Connery and Dalton were to me the two best Bonds of all time, Connery because, well, he's the George Washington of the Franchise, and Dalton because I always perceived him as darker and edgier.

I think Christian Bale would make a good choice

Batbond

Bale can't be Bond AND Batman! That's just too much coolness for one man to handle. He'd exlode under the pressure of the sweaty thoughts of a million fanboys (and fangirls, lets be fair!).

If he wasn't going to be Batman as well, I'd agree...but I think it'd be hard to accept him one role having seen him in the other.

Again I'll say -

Hasn't Clive Owen aleady been selected for the role? It was my understanding that Brosnan would do one more film and then Owen would take over. Now with this most recent change it becomes obvious that Owen will just step in one movie earlier than planned...

Unless, of course, I was smoking crack again

Personally, I think Owen is perfect for the role. Possibly the best casting choice since Connery. Take a look at his BMW short films. They couldn't cast someone better than him.

Also, I prefer From Russia With Love over all of the other Bond films. Comes the closest to the books IMNSHO.

So far, Connery has been the best Bond. Lazenby's film would have been the best Bond film EVAR if Lazenby hadn't been in it. Moore was too campy (with the exception of Live and Let Die). Dalton was excellent in Living Daylights which hewed closer to the books once again, but his second film as Bond suxxors. Brosnan was good and provides a nice balance between Connery and Moore, but he was hampered by the big Hollywood crapitization of the franchise.

At one point, Tarantino was vying to do a version of Thunderball since the rights were still up for grabs, but then the Broccoli's nabbed the rights after all. I would have loved to have seen Quentin's take on Bond. Oh well... He has said recently that he'd like to tackle a remake of Casino Royale. Hmmm.
