D&D 5E Who Will be The Next Monte...

The easy answer is Mearls.

But were I with marketing, I'd tell you that the next big designer is you, the players and dungeon masters, because 4E is empowering you to customize your play experience as you see fit.
Awesome! Well, I was recently Time's Person of the Year, so I suppose it's a pretty easy becoming the next big designer. :)

I find it utterly surreal that I first met Mearls over ten years ago when he helped me run a Call of Cthulhu adventure at a local con. It was the first time I've ever run a game using a second GM. Mike did a great job, but I kind of feel like I did him a disservice by not turning to him and presciently saying "Some day you'll be lead developer for a new edition of D&D!"

Well, maybe next time.

Well said. But you forgot to mention both how cool you are and how cool your customized play experience is going to be.

Yeah I'd say Mearls....hmmm I wonder what the other R&D people at WotC think of this thread?
I hope it will make them work even harder and write more enlightening blog posts, so they will surpass Mearls - until he catches up (5 minutes later), this resulting in a upward spiral of ever-improving quality that will make D&D 4 the best game ever (until the next edition, of course)

I will agree that Mearls has taken the lead on 4E and that the game is all his. I also think Monte is a better game designer and that Mearls designing 4E is a bad thing as I think his actual game design skills are lacking.

It's a good thing Mearls ISN'T designing 4e then. He is a developer. Heinsoo, Noonan, and Wyatt are the designers. That's a whole different kettle of fish.

Hmmm, I'm fairly certain that Monte will continue to be Monte. And would likely be very upset if anyone, including Mearls, were to begin introducing themselvs as Monte.

Just a thot. :p

I'm convinced that all the problems of 3e were not caused by Tweet or Cook, but by Skip Williams. Why? All those years of Sage Advice during 2e just shredded his mind, this was a cry for help.
