Why are my FLGS completely ignorant?

I'm lucky that my FLGS is really good, they know when things are coming in and when they'll get more. Unfortuantly it taks about half an hour to get there by car and I can't drive, the bus takes about an hour.

Recently MilSims moved to a more accessable and brighter retail outlet. The brighter place has seemed to make the employees also more friendly. Since moving there I have spend $250 in 2 weeks, where my usual spendage would be that per 6 month period. I have started a new game so I keep buying gadgets and things, or wanting them at least.
The new store is an old bank, the bottom level store room is an old vault which I thinks cool.
So far they've been Friendly, and Local. If the person at the counter doesn't know the game in question they'll get someone who does, and probably enjoys the game at that.

Ahrimon - There's still a Ground Zero on Fort Crook Road, but a couple years back (I think) they opened another one. It's the other one that Mystery Man and reveal were discussing.

And by the way, I agree with you about the Fort Crook one. I've always had excellent service from them, in both the comics and gaming ends of things.

Hmm, I guess I've been pretty fortunate - I've got two LGSes I can go to, one near work, one near home. Both have their pros and cons. The one near work knows me better and has more room for stock than the one at home. The one near home has more stock and is expanding it's playing area. Also the one near home is a lot easier to communicate my gaming needs over the phone with than the one near work. For example, I was trying to find the World of Warcraft RPG core book - the guys at the LGS near home knew what it was right off the bat, told me it was out of stock, when they expected to get it back in stock and offered to order it for me right then and there. Calling the store near work, the guy on the phone kept getting confused between the Pen/Paper game and the MMORPG (*sigh*).

However, I find approaching the owner/employees of the game closer to work a lot easier than that of the store at home - I really don't know why, probably because I was trying to run demos at the work LGS (but that's another story and a disaster at that).

And if you're curious, I'm talking about Renaissance Games in Fallston, MD and Games and Comics and Stuff in Glen Burnie, MD. I recommend both of them highly.

PS: Additionally, all this talk of LGSes makes me think that perhaps we should start a discussion threads on LGSes and our recommendations of where to shop locally.

Hey Mystery Man, istn' ground zero off of fort crook road? Or did they move. If it's the store I'm thinking of (and I think it is based of the phone number) it's always been a great store. I miss that place. I used to get everything there. The one downtown always sucked in comparison. I haven't been there in four years because I moved out of the area. But before I left they offered to keep a standing order of some comics I liked and ship them to me. Always excelent service and a knowledgable staff. If they didn't know, they'd find out for you. They may not have always been right, but they would double check if gave them different information.

Yeah, they do have two locations, one on Fort Crook and one at 50th and L. The new store has a huge area with gaming tables set up and the d20 material is spread out on a nice wide stand up rack type thing. Not jammed into a box so tight you can't even look for what you need. Unfortunately it's quite a drive for me to get to them.

How far do you live from 75? We live in CB and it's only about a 10-15 minute drive for us. From your place, just get on 75/480 and merge with I-80 West. Get off at 42nd and take a left at the bottom of the ramp. Take that until you hit L, take a right and go 8 more blocks. It's actually pretty quick since it's most interstate for us. :)

I live 172nd and Maple, about 5 minutes away from Elkhorn! :heh:

It's aaaaallll the way down Maple for me, then the interstate to 60th. 'Tis quite a haul so I can't just go there on a whim. The only real pratical time for me to go is on my lunch break (and I think I just might do that).

Incidentally, I hadn't realized there were this many people here from Omaha. :D

Yikes! That is a long haul. :(

That's dissappointing. Gord and Carol and two of the nicest store owners I've met - they are, however, at the mercy of their somewhat erractic distributor (who also, unfortunately, gives them some of the innaccurate information they get). I hope you get your book this Friday because I would hate to see them lose a customer forever.

Yesterday, not only did my Shackled City copy not come in as promised, but they informed me that they would not be able to get a copy in for at least 3 weeks. Seriously, this after 2 weeks of waiting for a major release? They're nice and all, but after the orignal BS about the release dates, they've definitely and permanently lost me as a customer.

Yeah, that sounds like Dave Carnige alright. I seriously think he is mentally ill as his behaviour is very strange. Back in the day when I was a Warhammer fanatic we dubbed him "Carnage" Carnige due to the absolute mess his store (and himself) was in. I mean product stacked on the floor kind of mess too.

Yeah, my wife really wanted to get the Shackled City for me, so when we heard about it she called him and he insulted her for thinking that they would carry non-WotC stuff. When she asked him if he knew any stores that would, he yelled "NO!" and slammed down the phone. That man WANTS to be put out of business.

Now I've waited 2 weeks, checked over 8 different game stores in 3 different towns, and I still have no luck. Next stop: Silver Snail Comics (Toronto) - I think they have an online store, and I'd really rather order from someone that's already gotten the stuff over the border.

Errr 8 stores don't have this yet? Is it possible it just hasn't been shipped to Canadian distributors?
