Why are things immune to crits?

They should be unclassed, along with infants and children, as in prior versions of D&D. When someone picks up skill in something heroic or expertise-driven, then they should get an appropriate D&D class.

eww.. eww.. eww..

gah.. 0 level humans had to be one of the worst things every in previous editions.. they werent even really people, they were merely landscapeing.

people are people, and at least in my campaigns I am able to have everyone have at least a spark of potential. Getting to level 10 in an npc class is an achievement, but really who cares? 5th level pc's are still stronger in a lot of ways.

Someday the reign of 5th level pc gods above the common herdes of level 1 peons across the lands shall be stopped.

lol.. you are a funny guy dcollins.. some of us actually like to play d&d world that makes sense.. even way back when there were 0th level peons everywhere my campaign worlds didnt use them. I prefer that a world full of 1st level grunts who are only there for the pc's to walk on and ignore to not exist. I'll just take that part of the dmg to be the optional part that it is. In the same way that i can change any part that I find necissary.. hopefully more people will make this change, eventually worlds will actually have people in it that would exist in the world as it is described... someday.. one can only hope..

not you obviously, but that is ok, it would be easy enough for you to houserule it back useing previous editions.. myself I'd like something more in lines with a reality that makes sense within the bounds described.

Personally, I don't even like the idea of PC/NPC classes.

In my games, NPCs are pretty much the same as PCs, except the vast majority of NPCs are levels 1-5.
