Even I, someone who has never been particularly positive toward 5th edition, never made such a ludicrous claim.Just another hurdle. I remember too, when 5E was destined for failure in 2 years tops and would mothball the entire brand.![]()

Tried to get new players for D&D 5.5E. 2 messages within a few hours.
That's why.
Also despite the massive bloat, it's easy to learn. Which is why Shadowdark is better. Trims off all that bloat.

I'd appreciate not being lumped with folks who catastrophized without any data. Even when I was criticizing early 5.0, I did so by saying that it was entirely possible that its "everyone's* second-favorite edition" approach could do quite well, or it could backfire horribly with folks viewing it as distinctly inferior to their first preference. History has borne out that it succeeded.
*For a suitably narrow definition of "everyone." Mostly excluding fans of The Edition That Must Not Be Named, for obvious reasons.
By the way if your definition of "everyone" doesn't really mean or even come close to the majority of people playing the game, why use the term "everyone's second favorite game"? Because for the people I play with? It sounds like a weird appeal to popularity .... when for at least 90% of the people I've actually played with over the years it's their favorite game. It's just odd.

It's just BS (definition: making up "facts" without any regard for their truthfulness).
Also, any claim that is built on an "everyone knows..." premise should automatically be viewed with strong skepticism.
