D&D 5E Why did they design Demiplane to suck?

In 3rd edition you could have spells cast at a level much higher than 9th level. Deities and Demigods had spell levels go up to 25th level. If you could add enough modifiers (twin, heighten, expand, etc) the spell, you could get a spell at a high enough level to bust the 9th level spell cap wide open...IF you had the spell slots to cast it.

2.5 edition had the equivalent of 10th level spells, though they were the * spells. You could find rules and ideas for them in the High Level Campaigns book I believe.

Certainly not official D&D, but the "The Tome of Mighty Magic" by North Pole Publications in 1982 had some "divine level" spells at the end of the book. One of them is "Create Plane".

Not related to 12th level spells, but the Ruins of Myth Drannor Box Set, and/or The Fall of Myth Drannor, both in FR, both Ad&d era, included rules and spells for 10th level spells, many of which were used in the creation of Myth Drannor and the Mythals. Those are the only references and spells in an official TSR/WOTC product that I have seen that go above 10th. They include rules for playing during the creation/height of Myth Drannor, where higher level magic did exist.

Lost Empires of Faerun mentions the former existence of conventional spells above 9th level but does not actually present any

The easy way to fix demiplane is to add a dorway version, and add the repeat casting every day for a year. Say if you do this, you can form a perimant door.

Within a demiplane, casting demiplane can attach another.

Demiplanes can only have 1 anchor point this way.

It is a slow downtime task to make a larger demiplane. But larger ones can be constructed.

In 3.5 there was create demiplane, greater demiplane and genesis basically three tiers of demiplane. Genesis being a level 9 spell you could create entire worlds with any climate land water composition even floating islands, all three spells as long as you paid a visit to the ethereal plane for the casting, one casting lasted a week and each subsequent casting added more space to the world. All were inter compatible as well main difference was how much space they added each time and adding more capabilities. You couldn't create animals or plants so you would still have to transplant them but once you did they would be perfectly able to live there.
