GHOTI is pronounced " fish."As a 3rd Grade teacher, I tend to just flat-out apologize to students when we encounter things like:
Through ("throo")
Though ("thoh")
Thought ("thott")

Dunno, why do the British pronounce aluminum as alyouminnieum? From whence hails this extra syllable?
Wait, what, I don't see any "u"s in either of those words.Same reason we don't pronounce the useless and extraneous "u"s in color and flavor.
