Why does the Sci-Fi channel show such a poor quality version of The Car...

It's on now as I speak. They probably show it at least once every two months. Which is a good thing, it's a very good movie. Except, it looks like they are using a bad VHS copy. Faded, somewhat distorted, washy audio.

Why aren't they using the DVD version? I have that, and the colors are vibrant. And it's widescreen (and there is a full screen version on it, if they really care) and the audio is pretty nice (though there are still some things I can't quite make out. No subtitles, unfortunately).

Could be worse.

Could be Mansquito.

I think that has become the benchmark by which all crappy made for Sci-Fi movies will be judged.

"Doomtrooper?! That sucked!"

"Oh yeah? Well, it was no Mansquito."

Why does Sci Fi show such crappy material? Because it's cheap. It would probably cost them more money to show the digitally remastered version of The Car.

Actually he seems to be asking about the actual picture/sound quality. But my question is: what is "The Car"? I've never heard of it, and I watch a fair amount of SciFi Channel.

They show it late at night. 2 am - 4 am. Like I said, they were showing it last night when I posted the original message.

It's a 1977 movie about a black car with no driver that terrorizes a small Southwest town. Sort of like Jaws but with the shark replaced by a hot rod Lincoln.

It's not a great movie, but it's pretty cool in a cult movie sort of way.
