Why Doesn't the Cleric have Cat's Grace? (2002 Thread!)

Huh, I never could think of a good reason to have of these stat improving spells. They are bland, they just change numbers, nothing excting at all. Boring. But that's just my opinion.:D

What about clerics of Kord? The god of strength and brawling certainly would value dex over int. I'd allow it in my campaign.

I think that would be something up to your DMs if you had a cleric and could justify why your character would need it. After all, where do new spells come from? Basing one on an existing spell is an easy way to introduce one. You could call it something interesting like "The grace of the God", or "Kords nimble Knowledge"

I would call this a question of the glass being two-thirds full or one-third empty.

Clerics have an overly broad list of spells IMHO. Endurance obviously should be in it. Bull's Strength and Cat's Grace are both not clearcut IMO, but Buill's Strength makes a bit more sense.

Obviously almost any spell could be on a Domain list. It is not a question of abuse, but is Cat's Grace a spell that each and every cleric should have? I do not think so.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he would value strength, not dexterity. That's probably why he's the god of Strength, and not the god of Dexterity.

In other news: The Elven Cheese domain from FRCS has Cat's Grace as it's second level spell.

Heh. If you look at the shaman in OA, they don't have either endurance or cat's grace. I can sorta accept that, but they also don't have resist elements, although they do have endure elements and prot. elements. I think James Wyatt made a few typos in coming up with the OA spell lists.

You can tell it's Elven Cheese by the handlebars.

Only accept genuine 100% elven cheese, made from genuine 100% elves!

For Cripe's sake! I am so sick of people whining as to why Clerics don't have Dex-enhancing spells and why Wizards don't have Cure spells and why Bards don't have Fireball. Fine! From now on, every class has every spell! Even fighters!

Or did I just give away the next great feature of the next great munchkin book?

The great munchkin book will not be complete until fighters have the ability to use Str as their spellcasting attribute.

Oh, er, hang on a sec....

 The lack of Cat's Grace in the Cleric's spell list seems like an arbitrary decision. Considering that they have an Int booster, which is of limited use mechanically and no more thematically defensible than a Dex booster, it seems like a perfectly valid question.

Honestly, they have 5 of the 6 already. If its appropriate to the campaign, giving them the last one isn't going to affect much of anything.

Maybe I would agree with you if those six enhancers were in the core rules. There was a reason only physical enhancers were in the core rules! Spellcasters buffing themselves up to make fighters useless in comparison is a lame munchkin trick. Of course, so fighters didn't feel bad, they let them have greatswords made out of ridiculous things, then let them wield them one-handed.

All we need to make this game just as fun as 2E would be a book that gave elves, but not other races, fantastic super powers! Oh, and cyborg arms!
