Well, I just tried to post a review of sorts for the Advance Players Guide. It got eaten by something. I'll try again tomorrow, it is too late to do it again.

It's at least 2 years that I wish to write reviews. Basically all the reasons you mentioned had a part in preventing me to do so. I don't want to write a miserable review of a few lines which no one will find useful or even read at all... but writing a good review takes time and effort. I am sure I could do it in a decent way, but at the end there is always something more useful to do for me. :heh:

edit:

There is one other reason.... to be complete, a review should be based on some playtesting. I don't think that any reviewer has really playtested all the stuff in the book, but at least the main parts. But in our campaign we rarely die and we advance quite slowly, which means that there are no chances to try many options on different characers!

I'm always on the lookout for individuals who want to make a commitment to reviewing. In return, you do receive some free product (both print and pdf) and the expectations regarding the reviews are only that you do your best to be critical, thorough, and fair for every product you review and do it all in a timely manner. It also means you get to review some of the newest novels from Wotc before they even are released to the bookstores. Anyone who is interested in this, can email me.

i refuse to accept free products.

if i am willing to spend my hard earned cash to buy a product. i am more than willing to give a thorough critical review.

as for the initial question for this thread...

Other. i did several reviews. with page numbers. references to other material with similar ideas. and errata.... only to find them removed...

so the reason i don't do reviews lies in the fact i perceived that certain reviewers don't like my reviews. ;)

My reason: People think I'm biased towards the Scarred Lands.

That's a little silly. I know some fans only fawn about products by their publisher of choice, but I have seen you point out problems with products.

Which is more than I can say about a nameless other fawnish fan of some other line that frequents these boards who has taken the occasion to take pot shots at you for you "lack of objectivity." ;)

I am, for one. And I suspect many others are as well. Some discussions I've had with other publishers lead me to believe that most of us want an honest review more than a glowing, "fan" review.

I know some publishers like that.

However, I know some publishers and designers who raise a stink if you give them a "4", or if you don't rate them favorably enough compared to a publisher they don't like. Some erstwhile RPG professionals simply can't accept that anything they do is less than sterling, and won't entertain the thought that anything they do can be improved upon.

Psion,

Yeah well not like they actually review my reviews. But even so that plus I'm lazy about doing more S&SS reviews, along with my lack of funds. But maybe over the summer I'll start up again.
